So I was adding washer fluid to my car and noticed this odd cap that had a gasket in it. so I did some looked and saw a fuse through the battery compartment cover. turns out the 60A fuse they replaced never got covered up ... I can't believe (kinda can at this point) they left it open like that!! see pics below. Beware this is BMW if San Antonio's QC when it comes to repairs add in how they didn't check to ensure anything worked in my car.

It reminds me of when I bought an M-B 240D in the '70s. After I got it home, I was checking things and found several pretty big holes in various places, but I can't remember where now; that was a while ago. I think I was talked into rustproofing. I took it back to the dealer, of course. The SM said something like "Oh yeah, I guess we forgot to put those plugs in." Really, ya' think?

I guess you are lucky that the service tech didn't just drop it into your washer bottle when he couldn't figure out what to do with it.

I washed my car last weekend too and thankfully water didn't get in there... I feel like they're just complacent

Remember the song by Cream, Born Under a Bad Sign? Ha ha...

I took my X3 in for service due to a vibration just before a complete stop and when turning lock to lock, like in a parking lot. Turns out it was the transfer case. So that was replaced and on the way home, a 3 hr drive, I kept hearing rattling from under the car when going over bumps. Got home and started looking for it, couldn’t find anything loose.

Crawled under the car, removed the plastic covering but still didn’t see anything obvious, it was clean as a whistle and all looked well. I duct taped my phone under it, drove around the block while videoing the Ujoint. I could hear the rattling noise in the video but the Ujoint looked perfect. Drove me nuts so I took it to my local dealer (really didn’t want to do this but not knowing what the issue was I didn’t want to drive it 3 hrs to my preferred dealer).

The local dealer found that one of the three bolts securing the transfer case had vibrated the nut off the bolt and the bolt was left rattling away. No matter how good someone is, they’re still human and prone to error/mistakes/forgetfulness. Many years ago I had a battery replaced at Sams Club. You buy it, they install it and take the old one. When I got home, I opened the hood to do a little cleaning and found their half inch socket sitting on top of a cross member near the battery. How that stayed there for the trip home I’ll never know but was so glad that it didn’t hit the hood as they closed it!

AndroidRobot,
So how goes the car now that you've had it a bit after your last service?

No other issues yet other than that fuse cover, it's raining on and off today so we will see if that causes any problems. I am still waiting to hear back on the legal side so this can continue moving forward. Thankfully things are quiet right now

AndroidRobot,
Texas, in the Houston area, has had tons of rain, not sure about your area but am wondering how the last service visit has held up so far. Are the issues they addressed still working properly?

kind of. I had one scare with the emergency malfunction last week, so far nothing has come back

I'm in West Texas (Midland Area) so we've been getting some rain these past couple of days with more coming. let's see how the car handles it electronically

I picked it up today and it's now in my garage. It is a very good car and I hope it remains that way!

I will post pictures later. I jumped off the airplane after a 30 hours of traveling, picked the car up, drove it home, put it to bed and now I'm doing the same.

By the way, it came with no roof rails and I actually like that better!
not the place to post that man, glad it worked out for you. I did the same more or less with mine that was ordered.

A...well...not sure what you mean by "someone it's still working thankfully." unless you meant to say everything is still working, in which case...

thank you, the doubled edged sword is I'm not stuck in the office all day but might be traveling more than I want at the same time. It's an opportunity to do something that'll further improve my background within my field while also getting a 20% raise so I can't complain.

Totally understand. I've worked both sides with Intel, and both are rewarding in their own ways. Hope this works out well for you!

Intel as in the Chipset company? I have a good friend who works there and I was offered a job a few years back in their R&D but I had to turn it down. I love the tech side of things and might change career paths to work in a similar role.
