Door edge protection

What is everyone doing for protecting their car doors from taking on paint from other cars or walls when you have to inevitably park in a tight space and have no choice but to open the door in a way that it touches something?

I don't park there and search further for another spot, further away. I'm difficult when it comes to parking my car. I don't want to damage it but ofcourse you never know what other people get up to. Parking it on specific spots like edges/sides of parking spots so I can be a little bit "on te line" to give me that extra space or just further away. I just won't park it underground if the spaces are too narrow for example.

You can also put dashcams on parking mode so if anyone touches the car, lets say bumps into it with their car, the camera's can capture it.

My fingers wrapped around the edge if I can't avoid close parking (but not enough so I leave finger smears).

I don't have the luxury of parking further away when it comes to my own garage, unless I can push the wall a bit further away so great suggestions and thanks for sharing your insight but NA for me

Have used this on my last three cars, and it works great for preventing those "edge dings" that are inevitable in a parking lot.

That solves the wall side of the problem but on the other side I have my wife's car which does not allow me to open the door fully and we are going to need that in a couple of weeks once we have our baby born next week. Unfortunately my wife won't like it too much if I install a foam insulation pad on her car 😂

Any that you recommend? Otherwise I have seen one on Amazon that I am thinking of getting.

Previous installations were professional installers with 3M and xPel, and they lasted several years.

We put the foam pipe insulation on some of the hard edges in the garage, as other have mentioned.

But, yes I know sacrilege, I ended up with these White Door Edge Guards on her X5, and they blend in with her Alpine White.

Do know what you'd do about color.

I've applied the 3M clear film product on other cars in the past (non-white), and despite my best efforts, they still seem to come off. Also use that for the door handle cup areas.

Now, the cars I've had PPF professionally installed, those clear door edge guards seem to stay on longer.

I've been living in Seattle for 11 years where parking spaces are smaller than anywhere else I have lived or traveled to and never had a problem with doors chips on my BMW's.

I noticed my first ding on my car :\ I hate people

No paint damage luckily. Ordering a kit on Amazon and hoping I can get it to pop out.

Back to the topic.. my neighbor installed a foam plate on the wall in the garage right where the door opens up. I think they got it from Home Depot.

Edge protection will protect edges of my car and dings on other cars how can I protect dings on my door panels from cars parked adjacent to me in parking lots?

City I live don't have liberty of finding a preferred parking lot and most of the parking lots are too tight for the size of X5.

You need to visit Korea.

Every car has door foam on the doors and they have a strip on the doors.

Go to Amazon and search Dent prevention car magnet

Funny you mentioned this. I've been thinking about adding them to mine when it gets here, but they are a bit of an eyesore. The Koreans sure got it right though, function over form though!

get it professionally wrapped, it's not expensive for just the door cups/handles/edges. maybe $200 if I had to guess and it'll last a lot longer than most consumer grade products. my car is wrapped in the high contact areas except my door edges, then again I've never had an issue with them

Magnet won’t work. The door panels are plastic.
