I got a survey after this last episode with the dealer and gave low scores, but no one contacted me.

I could complain to my dealer, but if I burn the service manager who knows what will happen in the future when I take my car in for service?

Do you subscribe on the connected drive website? I see the DR app as a new option to subscribe in the car App Store, but when I click the iDrive wheel nothing happens. When I go to the connected drive website it keeps saying it can't load my vehicle data, and it won't let me add via VIN either. Guessing their site is down, just curious if there's a way to subscribe directly from the car.

My dealership’s been updating the software on each visit. BMW promised us remote software updates and until that happens dealerships have to provide that service. I would file a complaint with both BMW corporate and the GM at the dealership.

Now, you know what would be bad ass...if they did follow suit with Tesla and sentry mode. Would also be cool to have the function to record a traffic stop (obviously longer than 40 seconds), but also was able to use the Driver's Attention Camera to get inside!

I have Extended traffic jam assistant, DA+ and Park Assistance package

Have you asked your dealer if DR will work and if so with what firmware and hardware?

Only a few technicians at the dealership know stuff, its hard to get them over phone to answer your queries. X5 is overdue for service , will ask for idrive update, i hope it will become available after i get the latest version.

Hmm yeah I keep trying it and the website can't find my info. I know I've looked at my subscribed services there before so must be a system issue. Called their help line yesterday and they had to create a trouble ticket for me. Nothing's ever easy!

...And the Better Business Bureau (BBB). I got a call from a BMW NA rep in less than a week when I filed a BBB complaint.

Got my car back after first year service, Requested s/w update they updated to 03/2020.58

Connected Drive shows Drive Recorder is available for purchase

Works!

2019 g05 built 3/19 on version 11/2019.40
Saw it available today, purchased on connected drive website.
Started to work immediately after purchase.

Wish I could record more than 40 sec though...

Drive recorder installed on iDrive ... works as expected..
Just Need 1 time setup .. of video length, cameras etc...

When u start the recording .. it creates a 40 sec video (20 sec video before the start and 20 sec video after you started)..
you can view the videos from iDrive and export it to USB (yet to verify this)

this is exactly what i needed .. totally worth 150$ ..

Worth that, but it would be SOOOO much more useful if it allowed continued event (alarm, motion sensors, accelerometers, near-distance ultrasound parking sensors, maybe cameras video motion, etc.) record for some period of time (or some % of battery capacity) after ignition off for catching parking issues.

I agree ... this is similar to Sentry Mode in Tesla, it starts recording as soon as it senses someone around the car ...

I believe BMW has the required hardware for this feature.
The name of the App is "Drive Recorder", Maybe they will launch another app for 150$ ... "Park Recorder"

as BMW slowly moves toward monetizing from connected drive services

After my successful OTA today from 07/2019.55 to 11/2019.70 the DR becomes available for 1 month trial and purchase. The release notes show DR (prep for purchase), Spotify (new function), etc. I'm puzzled why support/genius couldn't answer the sw/hw requirements.

You'll need to be on version 11/2019 or later. Once connected drive sees your vehicle on that upgrade or the next major (03/2020) it will enable you to subscribe to drive recorder for a month free, or purchase in varying subscription lengths or a lifetime purchase. Your vehicle will tell you it's up to date even though it is not. BMW doesn't push updates to all vehicles and they roll out very slowly. Your best chance is with an update at a dealership. Many don't do it for free unless there's a problem, some people have had luck complaining about CarPlay disconnects, screens going black, wanting the new Spotify or drive recorder apps etc. Took me several visits of "nothing is available for your car" and today I FINALLY got 03/2020 installed and was immediately able to purchase drive recorder. I was previously on 07/2019.
