Daylight savings automatic time issue

Did anyone else not have their BMW spring forward automatically? I have it on automatic time change and proper time zone.

I just learned you have to switch off the auto button and back on then it updates. Touch the clock on the upper right and it takes you to those settings

2024 X5 M60i with iDrive 8.5. Yesterday, without any action on my part, the time adjusted correctly. Today. however, it reverted back to standard time. I used the toggle off then on method to get it to update. Waiting to see if it again reverts to standard time.

Tried that and it worked…my Audis always change without me having to do anything. Thanks!

Mine was an hour behind and then when I tried to change it to Central time zone, it kept changing it back to Istanbul! I finally just changed it manually.

In my case the Auto button was off and as soon as I enabled that, the time was updated

seems like an iDrive 8/8.5 bug. consider reporting it.

how’s your cellular signal at home when parked? if low/spotty, it’s quite possible your vehicle may have trouble communicating with the server to update its time automatically

Does it really need the server for that? Aren't the DST rules fixed in the US?

automatic times on iDrive are synced via a cellular connection, much like a smartphone

while DST rules are fixed (starts on 2nd Sunday in March and ends on 1st Sunday in November), I don’t think I’ve come across any clock in my lifetime that changes back and forth automatically without being connected somehow. IOW, clocks that change times automatically require some type of connection (atomic, cellular, etc)

Well, UNIX like operating systems (like linux which is used by BMW) can change to DST and back automatically using the rules for different time zones listed in zoneinfo files. Of course, BMW may have removed this functionality.. BTW, on UNIX like systems, the time doesn't actually change (the system time is always in UTC time), only the interpretation of the time changes.

Oh yes, fond memories of when we changed when we would switch to DST, what, 20 years ago? All kinds of systems had to be updated. Including my Acura TL at that time (or changed to manual).

I stumbled on this accidently, just toggled it on and off while saying, "Hey, let's go." Worked for me.

y’all should report this iDrive 8.5 bug having to toggle just to reset the time properly to DST even if set to AUTO. I’ve never had to toggle anything in the 3 years I’ve owned my 45e that runs on iDrive 7

Mine would not let me select the “automatic time setting” checkbox so I had to manually adjust the clock forward by 1 hour.

Any one else unable to select the automatic time setting in Idrive?

I had posted about this in another area yesterday, my M60i was having the same issue - it had the correct DST yesterday morning but when leaving work it reverted back to Standard Time.

I had to toggle the automatic time update off and back on and it corrected it. It did keep Chicago as the city - that didn't change.

The M60i is on iDrive 8.5 and the M440i is on iDrive 8 - and it had no time change issues at all - updated automatically with success.

Many of these issues date back to ID7. For example, I have to set my time zone to Chicago for correct time. I'm nowhere near that far east. We don't even have DST here in Sask.

Slightly off topic, but when driving across time zones, has anyone had their clock update automatically?

Never have since I got it and have crossed many. I always have to uncheck and check the box to have the time update.

I don't think there's a way to report bugs... hence the reason why this software is full of them.
