How does it detect mobile traffic/speed cameras attached to vehicles and individuals using a radar? I have driven past officers and it has alerted me on several occasions along with mobile units that are not in place longer a couple of days. The image below was of a me driving past a highway patrol car that was hunting:

It doesn’t. Everything is data driven, see the article above.

I read the article. It states: "BMW’s system is based on a nationwide database of installations backed up by a network of radar detectors". I drove through a mobile protest/caravan on i95 with multiple state troopers on the side of the road and it was going off nearly every time I drove past one. How was it detecting them? Could it be indirectly like it does with inrix traffic and parking ospi? Detecting, reporting and an information broker disseminates the info?

If using an Escort radar detector with "Escort Live" then every time your radar detector goes off it uploads the GPS location and threat type to the database in real time. Multiply this by the thousands of radar detectors constantly being used. Your BMW is linked into this data source so it is able to warn you based on your own GPS location and show the threat indicators in your display even though you do not have a radar detector yourself. The system is most effective with long term stationary speed traps (ie. red light cameras/fixed systems). Mobile unit warnings are less reliable due to distances traveled during the gap between the upload and your approaching that certain GPS location.

Thank you. That is what I meant by indirect... the way the traffic info is uploaded and parking data etc. Thanks again for clarifying.

I think you got it now. iIt wasn’t detecting them but rather using the data available that is showing where the radar is. If you are getting near a location then you get notified.

Bingo. I think it is a combination of devices speaking with each other in order to provide data and circumvent restrictions of certain regions/municipalities.

Mine is picking up some state troopers and local pd in addition to the camera lights and speed cams. The one that I found most odd was the "your speed" sign. I thought those were laser but the vehicle warned me of it.
mine still picks up nothing at all, local PD, state troops etc never show up just random non-existent radar spots

Haven't checked, but is this available for 2019/2020 models? From what I've read it's only available on 2021 models built after July 2020.
