Even if the car passes the test, the recall list can still show for few days that the car has open recalls. They update the list afterwards. That what's I have heard.

My car never came to Finland. It stopped to Zeebrugge on its way to Finland.

My complete timeline is the following:

- order date: 15-01-2020
- production date: 13-08-2020
- arrival at dealer: 25-09-2020
- transport from dealer to Zeebrugge: 24-11-2020
- everything green on BMW UK recall site: 03-12-2020
- transport from Zeebrugge to dealer: 04-12-2020
- delivery from dealer to me (hurray!): 09-12-2020

It seems the recall is closed just prior to the transport back to the dealer? The logic could be that the entire procedure (testing, cleanup(?), paperwork, etc...) needs to be completed before everything is set to green again?

Dealers in Ireland have being informed that testing will be completed by the 18th in order to ship them to Ireland before the end of December in line with Brexit due Jan 1st. obviously with a delivery now likely after the 18th, we registering our car for 2021, with a delivery on the 1st week of January, if all goes well of course.

I had a check engine light come on for an unrelated issue and took to the dealer today. They have kept it and will attempt ordering new batteries for the car and replace it. They placed the order today but have not seen a ship date just yet. Hopefully will hear something Monday.

Hi guys, news from Serbia:
They received software and manuals earlier today. They will start testing on their vehicle (X5 45e) on Monday and inform me about the results. My car is next in line for the testing. They believe they will finish the testing of my car on Friday, 18th of December.

Just for the record, my car production date is 11/6/2020. I have picked it up on 5/9/2020 and returned it to the dealer because of recall on 19/10/2020.

I took delivery Sep 11. Oct 6th the battery short circuited while I was driving. Dealer told me to drive it in, despite the car telling me not to. Got it back a week later with the recall instructions. Called BMW yesterday as despite driving it in ICE mode it does charge the battery to 1-2 miles, wanted to confirm it was definitely safe to drive. Told me if I was uncomfortable maybe my dealer would get me a rental... hoping mine can at least skip the test step... no timeline provided...

Based on hearsay info from others (and I'd believe BMW), the issue is as the battery is fully charged. To preserve life, the car will try to keep them slightly charged. If they said drive it, but don't do certain things, I think you should be fine. Some of the charge is probably from regeneration.

Hey you can charge it while you are driving. Those few % will not do any harmless.

What did you do, when on 6th of October, your car had short circuit?
1) How did you know it had it?
2) Did they change/fix anything at your service?

1) The revs started spiking, high voltage warning, the check engine light flashed red, screen said to immediately pull over. Which I did. Called the dealer. They told me to drive it in, which in retrospect might not have been the best plan.
2) they did nothing but tell me it was a high voltage battery fault and told me to keep it in hybrid mode. Definitely sheepish and apologetic... nothing they could do.

It’s definitely charging from the regen, I have a Tesla In the fleet too, not sure if the BMW battery is the same, but as I understand it it’s pretty unlikely that without pulling the battery they’d know where the short circuit was happening, so even the little charge it’s taking could cause it to happen again. Hopefully I’m wrong.

I am glad you are ok. So, I believe your car is definitely a faulty one? I hope you’ll get a decent compensation.

Thanks for reply

What is the production date? Was your car recalled?

Hi everyone.
I ordered an X45e on 19 january. still waiting. It was supposed to be a birthday give for the wife. Well that went nicely down the drain as her Birthday is in June (i was told to get the car at the dealership in May...)... and still waiting.
The lack of communication and load of BS excuses I got from the dealership made me start looking into it and it was by reading the press that I found out about the whole battery problem and the announced recalls etc. Mind you, this was a few weeks back in November. Considering that the dealership must have known about this shit in Aug/Sept it indicates how important I am to them, bearing in mind that I just ordered a EUR 100K+ car. I was going to get an M4 for on the side, but clearly that's not going to happen, at least not at this dealership.
Anyway, still waiting on news when it will be released. Oh and thank you you a-holes in Spartanburg for not doing your job correctly, you've caused quite some annoyment for thousands of people. Same for the a-holes @ AG, is this really the best you can do for your 'premium clients' when you have a production error? I can understand a bit of delay due to Covid, but the way BMW has dealt with the whole battery recall thing is an embarrassment!

@MaartenV, you are totally right. But why do you want to change your dealership?

My 45e has been in Borne (south of the Netherlands) since 2 weeks now. It's been sitting in a tent since last friday late afternoon and i can see in the app that they are charging en discharging my car. Has anyone have any idea on how long this testprocess will take?

Just spoke to my dealer, but they can't tell when my car will be ready and back at their location.... driving a rental 1 serie now... i really mis my 45e :-(

Based on my experience the test process should last around 80 hours and count an extra day to update all paper work. Timeline was:
- start Saturday 28/11
- finish Wednesday 2/12 - recall message cleared in the afternoon
- update from dealer Thursday 3/12 to say everything was ok confirming recall message was cleared
- Car brought back to dealer today or tomorrow
- Car delivery on Monday or Tuesday next week

Order anniversary is on 14/12... so just over a year of waiting
