I haven't fed it through the frame, just connected the control module with the harness.

There’s a brown ground connector near the plastic piece you remove to get access to the trailer wire. Near that ground connector is what I believe is a circle port to run the wire outside the vehicle. I’m just curious how to feed it without cutting the harness and reconnecting it.

I got the same message when I first connected my harness to test it. I didn’t drive with it so no idea if it’ll disappear. I might try again today to test it with my boat trailer.

If the hole has a grommet in it, is it large enough if you were to remove the grommet? Once removed, you could stretch the grommet onto the cable, and reinstall it, if so.

The other thing might be to buy a pin extractor, and take the pins out of the connector, slide the wire through, then reinstall the pins into the connector.

This may help. This is the X3 hitch retrofit. However, the concept should be the same for running the harness.

Thanks for this. Looks like I’ll have to poke the pins out so I can feed the cable through the hole.

Installed stealth hitch with OEM wiring harness and control module today.

Harness can be fed through grommet just fine. You drill a hole with 5/16 drill bit. Cut from the hole to outside edge. Then push the grommet into the car frame. Opening where grommet used to fit is big enough to pull harness through. Then just push the wiring into the drilled hole in the grommet trough radial cut. Then pull/push grommet back out. I'll post few pictures later.

The car threw "chassis stabilization error" and "do not drive with trailer connected" warnings.
Drove a few miles - message persist.

Asked BMW to activate trailer mode and it said that this car is not equipped with such function.
I suspect some coding required after all? Maybe plugging a trailer would make it think it's all good? Hard to believe, but I'm hopeful

Hardest part was removing fascia.

Overall took me all day (9 hours) with all manual tools and figuring out how to unlatch side panels on 3rows car.

Plug which is compatible with OEM harness connector is pollak 11-893p. I got one from local autoparts store.
Fits nicely to provided stealthhitch bracket.

For my X6MC ships this week I hope. Do you have option 8SL trailer tow prewire? Awaiting pics.

I do have 8SL option.

I think trailer mode needs to be coded after all.

On older models, yes, you did need to modify the coding for the computer to recognize the module. My guess is that this is still true.

BMW tends to use programmable modules that work in various models, so to ensure they work, you need to program them and the rest of the vehicle to recognize them and work right. Way back when, it only was about 3 items.

I believe their is FA/VO coding required to enable the trailer mode settings menu.

When I plug my trailer into the coupling the trailer lights do work as expected. However, I get the following screens. Note in 1st pic, clicking on settings does nothing.

I'll have it coded on Tuesday and see.

Coded successfully!

Great coding write up to follow over on the X3 forum: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1582562

Now I just need to fish the harness through and mount the coupler.

Hey all, reading this through thread and others and still a little confused on the appropriate Part #'s to order.

61129834453 is the wiring harness?
What is the control module part #? 63116894066 appears to be correct, but wanted to see what others have ordered.

I'm looking to use the BMW wiring with a stealthhitch.

I'm looking to use the BMW wiring with a stealthhitch.

I will post this again...

63-11-5-A05-6D0 AAA CONTROL MODULE

51-12-7-425-457 3C20G02 GASKET (optional x2) can re-use factory

61-13-6-840-334 3C20E14 POLLAK
61-12-9-834-453 AAA WIRING (Harness)

If you are gong with Stealth Hitch LLC with the BMW Harness you don't need the POLLAK from BMW instead get:

Pollak 11-893P 7-Way Sealed RV OEM Socket and

Pollak 12-711U Right Angle Mounting Bracket for 7-Way Trailer Connector
both can be found on Amazon.

Also, optional, you may want to get some new stainless hardware for the Pollak connector, bracket and the bolts that attach the Pollak to the Stealth Hitch electrical bracket. The hardware that comes with this will rust in no time.
