Service question
Hi! Quick one - had my X5 for about a year (7500 miles driven) and the service due light has been coming on. Recently also had a light / message for “engine oil service required”. I scheduled the service but cannot get a loaner car until the start of the year - I’m assuming these lights / warnings are just timer based rather than indicating an actual problem so I should be fine to wait another month before taking it in, is that right?

Computer monitors time, mileage and driving conditions. Service required at least every 12 months regardless of mileage.

Contact your service department and schedule at your convenience. The reminder is a simple timing reminder. With Covid all bets are off with on-time maintenance scheduling. I am always late or early depending on if the roads are covered in cinders. My dealership knows my vehicles sit until roads are clean. My BMW’s are garage queens living a pampered life.

Haha sounds good. I’m sure it’s fine. I’ve got an 8 mile commute these days (up from zero pre Covid) so it should be fine till the beginning of the year. Just noticed the warnings getting more persistent so figured I’d ask. Kind of annoying the Manhattan dealership doesn’t have enough loaner cars!

You can find out the exact timing or mileage for requested services from either the app or in the vehicle. The alerts start before they are due...the status will tell you exactly when. It's under the INFO tab, then select required services in the app.

Loaner vehicles is very much an individual dealer thing. Mine, if they don't have one, will pay for a rental on warranty work, or drop you off somewhere, if you don't want one.

In theory it will not be a problem, but if the dealer chooses to be an arse about it, it can become difficult.
I had my first service done and it was about 20kms over to countdown, and I was told that they cannot guarantee the performance as I had come late for the service etc. Needless to say, I was a bit firm in my friendly chat with the service advisor and soon he backtracked. |
