So looking at this pollack connector. It looks like just a standard 7 way (7 pin) vehicle end connector that is made by Pollack for BMW X5/6, the BMW harness connects into this end connector. I think you could use any Pollack 7 way vehicle connector it doesn't have to be a BMW specific pollack. Not sure, but looks the same as most other Pollack 7 way. This would be for Stealth hitch "retrofit". I think you could use the Stealth 7 way connector with their bracket and plug the BMW harness into it.

This is the exact same connector. this is from ebay, but all the product identifiers match up. Here in Canada dealer list is $150.99.

The car's manual/handbook actually does show 1900kgs, but the dealer told me his is an error. The 30d has 620NM of torque (38% more than a 40i at 450NM), and coupled with the M-Sport brakes(which I have a part of the M-Sport package) there is no reason for it to be lower than the petrol/40i model. The 30d is the perfect towing machine in my honest opinion, the Diesel just makes towing effortless.
Do you have a cost breakdown? Any reason you didn't get the fold-able version? I was quoted close to $3000 for the fold-able version.
Thanks

Thanks
The last time I spoke to the dealer about towbars; which was back in 2019, the electric foldable version is not legal here in Australia, unless something has changed since. The foldable version apparently does not meeting Aust Design Rules (ADRs).

I paid around the $3k for my removable towbar.

$3K Au is about $2k US right now, I think. The factory tow bar in the USA is a $500 option. or about $750 Au. That's a lot for an aesthetic difference!

Last I read, outside of the USA, Westphalia was the OEM tow bar supplier for many BMW vehicles. In the USA, a square receiver that can take a ball adapter is the more common choice. But, it's always visible, unlike the manually, or electrically retractable ones sold most other places where a gooseneck ball is more common. To get the OEM electronics interface to work, I think it does require a small s/w tweak. that's required if you want full vehicle towing functionality, but there are lighting interfaces that will just give you lights.

Hi!
I want to do the same with My X5 M50. Did you install or have someone install? Trying to figure out how to get it on!

If you aren't intimidated about tearing your vehicle apart, it's not bad. The way BMW attaches their bumper covers, if you aren't careful and know what you're doing, you can break off the locking loops the tabs fit into, and then, it gets expensive quick. If you've done it before, or know someone who has, that may be the biggest risk. I was told that all of the X5's are prepared to plug in the electrical interface, but have not confirmed that personally (I got the factory hitch on mine). The stealth hitch is a decent product (I had an Invisihitch on my GT which is essentially the same). I did not feel comfortable removing the bumper cover, and had it installed on my GT. Installing the electrical interface, which you may not need) required removing a lot more panels in the vehicle. Having the factory OEM towing logic enabled is potentially handy.

As an aside, what, if anything, have people done for a brake controller (required if the trailer is of any size/weight)? Is there any wiring in the X5 to plug something in, or is that another thing to think about? I know there are at least three 'wireless' brake controllers that don't need any actually wiring done in the vehicle, which may be the best choice.

Can you explain some more. Now I am confused. “The larger cutout is for theirs “ theirs is who? Stealth? The Stealth instructions show the cut out quite large, larger than the bmw cut out/ knock out panel on the gravel guard. From the pictures I have seen it looks excessively large even for the Stealth hitch. So I am thinking the cut out could be reduced, but again I have not actually seen the hitch in person. For clarity when I refer to Stealth I do mean Stealth Hitch brand not OEM Westfalia gooseneck. The red line on the attachment is where Stealth wants you to cut.

So I finally got it tested been raining but it fking works. No coding needed to disable sensors or vehicle functions. As soon as the trailer it attached it pops up on the screen. This is the first X5 with Factory wiring retrofit with stealthitch working 100%.

Really appreciated your video and all the awesome contributions. This saves me a lot of work to figure out the unknowns. Bit off topic, but related: In Canada BMW won't let me order Dynamic Handling Package (DHP) with Trailer Tow Hitch from factory on 40i without providing the reasoning 'why'. Because I believe there is none! In US you can get both together on M50i. DHP is not even offered there with 40i.

Anyhow, thankful to all of you who is contributing on this tow topic

Se thing happens in the US with the X6. You can get get X5 M50i with DHP but not the X6 M50i with DHP.

I think I saw a discussion on adding trailer brakes, but if someone has more info on that, I'd be interested.

Is there a plug up front to plug in a trailer brake, or is one of the wireless ones a better choice? FWIW, I'm in the USA, if that makes any difference, and have the factory trailer hitch installed.

What your plan to mount the electrical connector? May be easier to change out the double oval 7 way/4 way BMW one to a round 7 way and use the included stealth brackets and and just use an adapter if you need the 4 way?

Mjbmw1 How did you route the harness from in the controller location to the hitch mounted electrical connector? Wondering if one needs to remove the bumper?

I have the stealth hitch installed but haven't received the wiring harness yet so haven't been able to tackle the electrical yet. Any tips or insights?

Would you mind documenting the wiring installation for rest of us? I'll buy you beer 🍺 when I visit Hawaii 😀. Amazing drone videos by the way - loved the shots.
