Blizzak DM V2 on X5 M50i
Ullo All
Has anyone tried the Blizzak DM V2 on their X5 (V8)?. The tire is rated T (275-45-20) but in winter I would never drive at 180kph anyway, the issue is the softness of the rubber and side wall support in relation to the weight of the car. I want to find out if the car feels stable at 75-100kph, I know the grip would be amazing but if the car feels "wobbly" at reasonable-high speeds I am concerned. My new X5 will have air suspension, so I expect a comfortable ride in city, but again the issue is when driving on freeway. Maybe adding 2 extra pounds of air will negate any "wobble".... who knows!!?????.... Thank you in advance. |

I am driving a G05 x40i with M Sport suspension on DM-V2s for the second season this winter and on 20" rims. Also had two previous sets of DM-V2s on a previous SUV and other Blizzak models on all cars for the household and in-law families for the last (order of) two decades. There was a BMW-recommended Michelin Alpins setup for a season one time a while back on an M3, but then I immediately went back to Blizzaks after that. I am a fan of Blizzaks, not sure you can tell :-P.
Works great on X5. Stability at those speeds is definitely not an issue and I do get up to 150km/h accidentally on occasion with no issue. Obviously dependent on good balance, which I never had trouble with on Blizzaks. Maybe the only thing is for people that must have quiet tires — they are not noisy, but noisier than summers. For me, winter performance and safety is way way way way more important than that slight added noise. Put whatever pressure the car tells you to put after you configure them in iDrive on changeover.

I have the x40i with the M Sport package and the air suspension. I had the Blizzak DM V2’s put on about two weeks ago. (Costco had a fantastic deal). Other then a bit more tire noise I am barely noticing any difference between the Blizzak’s and the OEM Runflats. I am well aware they have a max speed of 119mph/190kph and that’s plenty for me. I would definitely recommend them. I can’t wait for a good snowfall to try them out.

I haven't owned a Blizzak for awhile. The older ones I had were quite soft, which lead to less than comforting reactions when cornering.
I have liked Michelin Alpins, but I switched to Nokian for the last couple of vehicles. One thing that I noticed that differed from the Michelin was that it appears as though it's about 10% more efficient than the MIchelin. The Alpin was about 10-12% less efficient than the summer tires on a trip, and the Nokian tire had almost no penalty and had great performance when the weather turned crappy. I put a set of Nokian R3s on my new ride last month. No snow yet, but they worked fine on my previous ride. |

I am from Ottawa as well. Was debating between all three brands mentioned, but went with PA5 SUV In laws have Blizzaks, they are happy. IMO all these are good choices.
