Buy out or trade in?

New to the forum,

I currently have a 2020 BMW X5 due in 2 months. MSRP was about 72K, but got it for 66K. Currently buyout is about 40K. It only have 15K miles on it, don’t drive it too much.

Need help weighing the pro an con of buying out the car as similarly equip car would cost about 76K and up.

If buy out, definitely would need extend warranty costing about 3500 for 3 more years after mfg warranty. I have a few friends that own BMW that things started to break after 4 years and any one of the issue is close enough for the extended warranty price.

I would also need to swap out the brakes and rotors (all 4) as it rusted a little as I don't drive it much.

A quick comparison of CPO similarly equip car / mileage goes for mid 50Ks. Dealer already told me there is no equity value in my lease towards a new car.

Thanks in advance for all the feedback

Don't sweat the *rusted" rotors. A drive will remove the rust. I bought out the lease of my loaded X5. Passed on a warranty. So far, so good.

Welcome to the forum. It's not really a numbers decision (less expensive would be to buy it), if you like it and want to keep driving it then buy it. If not look for something else.

I personally would skip the Extended Service contract (BMW's name for an extended warranty) but if it makes you feel better to get it then it probably is worth it. You can by it at any time prior to the new vehicle expiring and from any dealer so no need to rush into that. There are some dealers that are recommend due to their pricing so when the time comes just ask for references.

You shouldn't need brakes or rotors for many years yet so no need to worry about those.

Good luck.

I should have also stated the car has a slight vibration when braking in mid speed 35-60 mpg. Hence, dealer and local auto mech all state it was due to the un-even rotor due to rusting. Dealer wants 2700, local mech wants about 1700

I love the car, it has everything I wanted. Even has the disappointed massage seats that I don't feel.

The only trouble it has given me is Parking brake light comes on while driving. 2 trips to dealer so far still couldn't resolve it. Once I power cycle the car (turn off / turn on). Light goes away and don't have any idea what trigger it.

Since the parking brake is a switch now, there must be a relay somewhere that triggers the light along with the mechanism to engage the parking brake.

Could it be in one of the fuse boxes?
