I truly dislike the start/stop feature. I agree it is much smoother. But I find it obtrusive and obnoxious when I stop at a stop sign for 5 seconds and the car shuts off. It doesn’t just effect the motor. It also slows down the HVAC system. I have done what I feel will be the only workaround currently available that I’m happy with. As mentioned I set my Sport Individual to all comfort settings. I then used BimmerCode to set the car to start in Sport Individual. I previously had tried the “last mode” BimmerCode setting and found it did nothing. This works well and I now can completely avoid the ASS system without having to remember to change the mode of the car.

That can be done but unfortunately the person/company that figured it out will only code it remotely for obvious reasons.

The thing turns off before you even stop. If the car thinks you're going to stop, the engine cuts off as you're slowing down.

Its SUPER annoying in NY with constant city street stop-and-go traffic. My car will ASS 100+ times per drive. There is no way this system is designed to handle this much stress.

BMW did not design this system with NY in mind, city traffic here is absurd and should be its own level on the EPA scale- NYC/City/Highway.

As expected BimmerCode said there is no way to disable auto start stop on vehicles that do not have the button. At this point I'm ok with the workaround using Sport Individual.

TurtleBoy who's the company that figured it out ?

If enough people complain and there will be no regulation stopping them from doing so, there's a chance!

In Europe, the car manufacturers have to lower the emissions or pay huge fines, so they are using everything including these tricks to reach the unrealistic goals set by the European Union. It won't get any better, it will only get worse.

r33_RGSport has done it.

Nice thing: there is always a back door.

Companies can combine their CO2 emissions.

Mercedes has bought part of the O CO2 emission of the Tesla fleet to neutralize their high emission. Rumours say that a substantial part the profit Tesla made as a company is generated by this deal.

Excellent, glad it worked out. Something tells me r33_RGSport will be busy in the future.

Is it "no more" start stop or there is the option to turn it on vs off?

Looking at 2021 X5 40i

No more auto start stop period. It's off completely for all driving modes (Comfort + Eco Pro). It needs to be coded back in to be re-enabled.

The button to turn off the ASS has been removed. In order to not have it Auto Stop and Start you either need to use a Sport mode (many seem to set Sport Individual to all Comfort options) or do the coding by r33_RGSport that has been mentioned.

Or, I think you can retrofit the button assembly and have the button again.

I bought a new adapter and tried to code auto start stop on my 2019 to remember the last setting. I had successfully coded this before but with the latest OTA software update it was reverted back to always on at start up. However when I tried to code it again it says it cannot be coded. Did BMW do something to force turning it off every time the vehicle is started?

On both my 2020 (G20) and 2021 (G06) the ASS remember last setting is still available (with BimmerCode App).

All the coding I do gets reverted back to default after every OTA upgrade. After the upgrade I was always able to code it back without errors.
