I notice on my x5 m60i that when I first push the engine start button in the morning, there’s a slight delay before it engages and starts the engine. Maybe a second. No sound whatsoever. If I turn it off then and repeat, it’ll start immediately after pushing the button. I’m wondering if this is normal. Do others experience this?

Yes. Happens on my X6 40i as well, sometimes up to 2-3 seconds delay at cold start. I wanted to ask but was too lazy to create a post lol.

Does it have to do with the cold start using the engine starter, and the warm start using the mild hybrid transmission start?

I noticed this on my M60i. Does not happen every morning though.
Did not really bother me as engine eventually starts up after a second or so delay.

Do you have to hold down the start button until it starts?

Does it on my X5MC,apparently it's normal from what I've heard. Little annoying at 1st but I'm slowly adjusting to it as my X3MC started like a normal car does(duh)

Yep, doesn't bother me because it's very short, or not at all.

No, you just have to hit the button once but there’s a slight delay before engine turns over on a cold/new start. I did notice today that the electronics fire up as soon as the button is depressed. It’s not a huge deal and it’s never failed to start. I just thought the delay was a bit odd.

Same here, recently started noticing this. I felt like the delay thats happening is something new. But since I never paid attention before, I just assumed that it was always like that.

I’ve noticed this on my M60 and assumed that it does exactly this.
Totally off bases but since we are talking delays. I find the delay for the backup camera to be excessive once reverse is selected - compare to our pre LCI 45e and the departed X3MC.

Normal on my 40i. I think the software or system initialzation isn't quite done yet. There's lots of things it does if you listen closely.

It would still make a decent getaway vehicle...

‘24 M60i - have experienced a slight delay on occasion and a few times got the message "starting engine please wait” in the instrument cluster area. The only time that anyone shared that exact message on X5 or X7 forums I could find is this X7 thread: https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2088549

Service Advisor said he hadn’t seen it before, going to have it properly checked out when it’s time for me to take it in for my brake booster recall.

I've used the actual start button to start my x5ike les than 5 times. You guys aren't remote starting you cars. I literally remote start it 99% of the time.

I will say, the remote start does take it's sweet ass time to start. All our other vehicles start promptly when remote started, the X5 thinks about it for like 5 seconds

I notice this when starting in my garage first thing in the morning, which is why I do not remote start it then.

Likewise on our 2024 X6 40i. Maybe just a second or two, just long enough to provoke a fleeting moment of concern.

These vehicles are computer operated devices that may or may not include an internal combustion engine. I've gotten used to a brief hesitation when starting any piece of electronics as the computer(s) fire up. I just don't notice it.

I'm more concerned with getting my seatbelt on to silence the annoying racket my X5 makes when I hit start sans seatbelt.

Unless it's consistent and consecutive, I wouldn't worry about it. It does happen sometimes for me too. May be three to five times a year. May be one time it took more than 2 sec during ACC but it's never done that again.

My X5 is 5 years old too with its original battery.
