Well I need:
Air suspension + optional 3rd row.
Acoustic glass.
Diamond controls.
Auto lock/unlock on all 4 doors.
No tacky touch screen controls.
Cup heater integrated (part of exec package before)
No hybridization EV motor (want to turn off auto start/stop)
Adaptive mode for Suspension

If the new X5 is missing any of the features above then it’s a step behind, a downgrade for me. I have all the above in my Pre-LCI 2020 X5 40i.

Similarly spec'd, a 2024 X5 xDrive 50e would cost me close to $15k more based on MSRP and the loss of the $7500 tax credit. I would also lose the battery charge feature while driving which was really important when I was on the road (battery hold wouldn't cut it), and I can't get my favorite color on it.

If you add in the $15k depreciation hit I would take on trading in the X5, I'd be out $30k or so. Is the LCI nice? Yes. Is it worth a financial hit of $30k? Not even close.

So I did the most sensible thing I could - I put that money toward a second fun car, and now I have a fantastic all-round vehicle and a car that's a lot of fun to drive around town.
1) Frankly speaking, I don't think the MSRP price difference would be 15k between 45e and 50e, probably around 6-7k difference. And someone has mentioned before, there was less discount during covid period of time, and there were madness on PHEV or EV.
(eg. I lost 15k in just 3 months of owning a tesla model 3 after waited for 6 months, what a stupid decision ever)

2) Not all people are qualified for tax credit (AGI 150k for single or 300k for family), quite a few BMW targeted customers would not have that benefit at all.

We often see some ppl easily throw 150k+ on a M car or a P car, these are actually much more costly than what OP did, I have a friend who drives a 15 years old odyssey and consider me an idiot to buy a X5.

Yea I mean an X5 will depreciate like 50k in 4 years.
You can spend that 50k on a highlander, etc and drive into ground for 15years.
Doesn’t make financial sense to buy luxury car, but if you want it and it’s important to you, and within your means, then why not.

I traded in my 2023 with 7,000km (5,000 miles) had to pay $11,700 Canadian- equal to $8,850 US dollars.

This 2024 has which mine did not:
- a new colour in skyscraper grey only available for 2024
-22 inch rims
-assisted driving package
-40 hp more
-sky-lounge
-exterior refresh
- interior refresh
- heated and cooled cup holders

Didn't take long for me to say yes to the deal.

Life Cycle Impulse A fancy way of saying refresh/update/etc. for an existing series.

In India, we luckily (or unluckily??) dont get too many options to add or customise.

The spec is predetermined by BMW India (with limited inputs from the dealers) and broadly you get the X Line and M Sport variants, in Petrol and Diesel. 30d and 40i.

Here's a look at what we get. The only real choice we get is the colour and the upholstery (from a limited number of options).

I'm looking forward to getting mine, 40i M Sport, Skyscraper Grey with Tartufo Leather.

What’s diamond controls? Never heard of that. 2020 also had the luggage pack with motorized rear cover - that is pretty cool and useful.

I meant the crystal/diamond gear shifter and center console.
The touch screen is already enough for me to avoid the newer models.

BMW is probably going to bring some of the buttons back.

Thanks for sharing. Its interesting how BMW offer the products locally in different countries. There all pretty solid options though.

I guess I only look at the reality.
Today they are missing features. Look at the list I mentioned, some features are missing today. As I said for some of us it’s a downgrade.

I test drove a couple ‘24 X5 40i’s today (50e is stop sale and can’t be driven at all). I’d previously driven the pre-LCI 45e.

I think the LCI is mostly better. The material quality on the seats was a stand out improvement. Even the sensafin looks great now while every pre-LCI X5 I saw had glaring problems with stitching or wrinkly seat material. IMO both Brooklyn and Skyscraper are excellent colors on the LCI.

HUD and digital dash were pretty impressive and the UI seemed responsive. Excellent throttle tip-in tuning and start/stop on the LCI.

The crystal gear shift on the pre-LCI always stuck me as incredibly tacky so no loss there. The LCI low profile gear shift was intuitive. Paddle shifters were pretty nice but I’d prefer metal rather than plastic backing for those.

Even the 40i has a butt-load of power. I’d guesstimate it is at least 50hp and 50 lb/ft underrated.

Loss of the comfort controls on the rear doors is unfortunate for anybody who needs to load children back there.

I did notice unexpectedly high road noise on the highway, especially with the 22” rims. On the 22”s I’d consider both the road noise and the ride quality to be unacceptable. It was an bad combination of luxury-tuned suspension (soft and sway-ey) with frankly awful road impact management and tire comfort. Noise and comfort both much improved with the 20”s.

There was more body roll than I remember on the 45e. Does anybody know if the suspension has been retuned?

Way back when, didn’t BMW do away with some physical buttons and then brought them back in the next gen? Can’t remember which car or across all models, must have been like 20 years ago lol

I have the 22's- haven't noticed a difference between the 2023 I traded in that had the 21's. But, i'm sure the 20's are a smoother ride. I just could not pull the trigger on 20's when I was standing next to one with 22's. I have winter's that are 20's- so I guess i'll have to wait till October to try them out.

Actually, Audi and Porsches are adding some buttons for HVAC on the newer models after going full touchscreen prior. I think that's the right move.

Yes, VAG has already expressed regret for doing away with all the buttons in the new GTI and has promised to bring them back at the next refresh.

I've tried the buttonless cars and I just don't like them. I'm not afraid of new technology as long as the tech works well, but voice and touch control is not ready for prime time on a vehicle I'm using to travel 80mph down the road.

Interesting thoughts on the LCI

For me one of the main reasons for getting the pre-LCI X5 was ID8 - I really don't like it but I appreciate we are all different
That & the fact I couldn't get anywhere near the discounting levels I got
sort of sold it for me

This unit is miles ahead of the pre-lci. From the exterior, to the bump in HP, to the interior, which is quite honestly in a different league. The screen is very user friendly, and for those complaining about no more physical buttons, well it took me all about 30 min to fall in love with the new set-up.

This is coming from a guy who bought a brand new 2023, 3 months ago.

Zero regrets of spending the extra cash on the trade-in

This LCI is one amazing vehicle!
Sorry if this has been answered but what exterior color is that?

Congrats.....
