Sky Lounge LED worth it?

I think this feature is super cool BUT is it worth the Executive fee over the Premium fee?

I would add the LED laser lights as an extra option for 1k (on top of premium package). The sky lounge is the only other thing I would want to add (and can't as an option). So is the executive package really worth it just to add the sky lounge?

I was very excited when this option was opened up to the x5 which was previously on the x7 because i always drive with the sunroof glass exposed, day or night. So I always wanted it in our build and have zero regrets. every time someone looks up, they comment on it. I think it adds to the overall ambient lighting ambiance inside the car, if that's important to you, then get it. its a fairly standout, but albiet unnecessary feature much like the glass controls, alcantara headliner, leather dashboard, etc.

It being worth it is purely subjective since it doesn't actually serve any function other than appearance.

For me personally? I think it's worth it. I feel it really adds to the overall ambiance and luxury feel of the car. It's like the starry sky effect in Rolls Royces... serves no function but gives it a unique, luxurious touch.

Use this money to buy proper wheels.

The ambient light is already fashion and you only look at that sky lounge once a year or just to show your friends.

But if you have money and want to spend it then yes, buy it.

My wife "mandated" only two features for her G05:

-diamond shifter
-disco sunroof

Don't think BMW has a good handle on consumer preferences? Guess again!

Lucky for me that "only" came with the M-sport and M perf brakes.

Ps. While completely unnecessary, they really are highly refined features that really stand out...others who happen to ride with us always mention them favorably.

There are many other options in the Executive Package (versus Premium Package) that I think makes it a no-brainer to choose the Executive Package. The Sky Lounge for me was just an added bonus. The total price difference between the two packages is $3,300. And for that, you get

(1) Laser Lights ($1000 value),
(2) Drive Recorder ($200 value),
(3) Rear manual side window shades ($250 value),
(4) Soft-close Doors ($500-600 value based on previous generation X5 pricing),
(5) Parking Assistance Package ($700 value),
(6) Heated/cooled cupholders (no set value, but assume something like $200-300),
(7) Sky Lounge (approx. $1000 value based on what I've seen on other models)

This adds up to about $4k worth of options for only $3,300. If you're going to get Premium Package and then pay $1000 for Laser Lights and $700 for Parking Assistance Package, then you're really talking about only an additional $1,600 to get you the Executive Package. It really is a no-brainer for me, but of course totally up to you!

I think indeed parking assistance package is worth considering too. Is 360 view part of this package? Than I would really advise to order it.

Soft close I have too. Also not really necessary but nice to have.

And at this price range 1 K more or less is not going to make the difference so better chose it exactly as you like.

I have the roof and I like it. Gives a luxurious look. But not really necessary of course. And you don't see it your self as mentioned

By the way they are not separate leds but a sort of figure scratched in the glass and 2 led strips on the sides reflecting in those giving the effect.

EP was well worth it to me, and the Skylounge was just an attractive bonus.

This was exactly my thought process when ordering. Was going to get premium with laser lights and parking assist but looking into getting the exec. IMO, its a no brainer. The extras you get in the exec vs premium with laser lights and park assist was plenty worth it.

If it was a stand alone option, I'd probably pass but the way that BMW bundles shit now adays, Executive package had everything I wanted except this and soft close doors. Surprisingly, most people in the car really like it and when I change the color on demand!

I was convinced not to take sky lounge:
- apparently some have issues with water ingress
- very $$$ if repair needs to be done

Not sure if that it is true but that was the reason I decided not to go for the Sky Lounge (and got everything else instead)

Wait...are you saying that the sunroof size and/or installation/mounting is actually different when you get the Sky Lounge? I was under the impression that the Sky Lounge was simply the same sunroof but with the LED's.

I passed on that package to upgrade to the M50i with less options and have zero regrets. I did upgrade the interior with glass controls though, that seems to be a more apparent interior upgrade for daily use and looks / feels amazing.

That is what I was told - not sure if it is true or not. But it was enough to scare me from taking it.

Can you guys get a standard sunroof hat isn't skylounge? Here,if you want a sunroof (and I 100% did), skylounge is the only option.

I'm very happy with it in any event, the lights are amazing.

Yes, regular sunroof = 2100€, skylounge = 3020€ in Belgium.

I've got the sunroof. Really nice. 30% bigger compared to previous generation X5.

It's different glass too with hundreds of etched dots to reflect the light. It's not truly individual LEDs or fiber optic light points as rolls royce does.

Yep agreed, optional. Included with executive package in USA and offered stand alone as well.
