i5 M Sport steering wheel swap (photo inside)

Looking into the feasibility of swapping out the i5/i7 steering wheel into an X5 M60i.

Has anyone done this before? Love the M60i but have had the same steering wheel in 3 other BMWs and in a weird way it makes me feel like I’m driving the same car.

Why not get something like a wheel from Carismo or some of the other vendors that do steering wheels if you are looking for something totally different? You can then customize it at least to your liking.

Carismo confirmed to me yesterday that there are still issues to be worked out with driver assistance functions for 2024/LCI.

Very professional note from them sent before my purchase. I appreciate the level of detail and care this took. Many companies would have just snagged my money and stiffed me with loss of functionality (what I assume other companies are doing at the moment for LCI owners).

Carismo said they’re working on it.

If you move forward, I’d highly recommend talking with Carismo.

Maybe an OEM wheel off another current BMW with same head unit or iDrive 8.5 and driver assistance would work? I have no idea.

I would be interested in the new i5 M steering wheel, but my X5 is 2020, so it still has the physical button for the heated steering wheel function, doubt it would work with the newer wheels where the heated button is not on the wheel...

Do you have a contact? I wouldn't mind following up with them.

I'm holding on my purchase until I get confirmation on this.

it’s not as simple as a physical swap anymore due the embedded electronics. given how ‘new’ these vehicles are, is it worth the trouble because of no known compatibility?
