NY City potholes and bubbles w/ run flats

My last BMW was a 2012 550 M Sport and I had about 7 bubbles and 2 cracked rims in the 1st year alone. NYC roads are tough.

I have an X5 m50i on order and I begrudgingly chose the 20" M Star wheels because I assume they will be the least prone to problems in and around NYC.

Anyone have the 21 or 22's in NYC without any issues?

I hate the run flats. Seems you feel every little pot hole as if it's a crater.

It really comes down to the roads you drive on frequently, how careful you are and a lot of luck when it comes to driving with plus size wheels. I’ve driven in low profile, lowered cars all my life so I am use to driving a certain way which is required. You simply can’t fly into everything carelessly with low profile tires.

With thst said I’ve only had one incident in NYC with 22” which could have happened even if i had 20”. There was a long bolt that punctured my tire and even went through the wheel. Luckily I was in traffic so going less than 5mph when it happened.

Yes - thumbs up on the 20". Still had to replace 3 tires in first four months driving in NYC and Brooklyn.

I currently have 22’s on my x6 M50i and I think BMW has done a great job of damping the suspension to accommodate the rim size. I was nervous upon ordering initially, but couldn’t see myself with small rims in those large wheel wells. My comfort is A1, better than a friend of mine’s urus on 22’s. I live in NYC, so I feel ur pain. I had a 2013 535 w/ 19 run flats and the replacements by the end of the lease totaled 13.
