Those pics look like what is on my 18 X3 (G01). Just a bit of waves. Not even wrinkles. I thought it was just for more "give" when sitting so it feels more plush. I always thought it was intentional because BMW has some of the most awful leather in the industry. I'm assuming it's for durability cuz it sure isn't for softness. I'd rather they make it a little softer even if it's less durable b/c Vernasca (let alone Dakota) is WAY too hard. I had the "hard to take care of" semi-aniline leather on my Lexus and even after 10 years, it's not that worn (just a bit of cracking on the driver's seat).

X5 Rear Seats

For a vehicle with such high price point and with such name and reputation is disappointing. Instead of getting better each year, they are going backward each year.

Picture of my MY19 now with 15k on the clock.
Not sure if I’m allowed to post on this thread or not?
The wrinkles do slightly distract me when driving but nothing major, more so when I’m reversing and I look behind me and the rear seats are in view, otherwise they don’t tend to cause to many issues. I have raised this with the dealer and also the laser light lens joining mould mark underneath the cluster.

They seemed very enthusiastic about getting me out of the showroom which is a great start

Got mine today

As a newbie I feel obliged to play my part in keeping this thread alive....

I took delivery of my new X5 today and alas I am one of the unlucky ones who got the no wrinkle uncomfortable rear seats :-)

My salesperson is convinced that the problem is/was only with the Veranasco leather seats. I don’t believe that’s correct as I have seen pics here of wrinkly Merino ones.

As part of my initiation to this Board I read the entire thread and had sleepless nights worrying about how wrinkled my rear seats would be :-) but mine look great imho

If you read all 1,065 posts, then you deserve the more comfortable wrinkly seats as your reward

You said you picked up your new X5 today which I assume is a 2021 but your sig says a 2020 X5. Is this your second G05 X5?

I settled on a 2020 Tanzanite Blue but while I was dicking around with the price and add ons it got sold.

Settled for a 2021 in Metallic White. I will change my sig.

I am getting my X5 with merino by the end of December. My sleepless night has started

After reading the 1000+ posts it seems as if the wrinkle issues are improving? Is this the latest general consensus?

This is good news to hear PeterK1, I was hoping your wrinkle-less seats were in fact in a 2021 model. Thanks for your reply! You can download BMW's warning label that sticks to the back of the front seats notifying rear seat passengers that they sit there at their own risk of back injury. I think it comes with a waiver too

The horrendous out of spec wrinkles disappeared quite awhile ago, it has probably been 18 months or so since we have seen the really bad examples.

With the current MY it seems we are seeing more inconsistencies between the right and left seats. While tough to tell in pictures, it appears we are seeing more where one is perfectly smooth and the other is similar to what we have seen in previous MYs.

Picked up my car... first thing I checked was the back seats. Now, I can finally contribute to this thread and get some much needed sleep.

In all seriousness, my wrinkles are acceptable.

Not sure if mentioned earlier in this monster thread, but you can steam the wrinkles out if you do not like them. Basic method is to put some wet towels in the microwave to heat them up. Place the steaming towels on the seats/wrinkled areas until they are cool and then use a hairdryer to dry the seats out. Just be careful not to overheat/burn them. The wetting/heating/drying will shrink the leather into place without affecting long-term durability/etc.

From what we have seen lately on '21's, you're right but until some of us (beats me who they are) are convinced the chiropractic rear seat wrinkles are permanently gone, this thread will no doubt live on. . . .and lest we forget.. ..

If they're evenly wrinkled, I'd still just assume they were intentional. It's the ones where one is smooth and one is wrinkled that would bug me.

Most of those shown in the pictures above just look sloppy. And, maybe even 1978 Chrysler Cordoba-ish.:
