It would be nice if we knew the exact location of the sensor. I don’t have my G05 yet so I can’t check, but maybe others could...hint, hint.

On a side note, I don’t care because I doubt I would use it much, if at all, but I really don’t care for the body color bezel. Probably my first mod will be painting that bezel black as it should have been.
I am OK with it being disabled. On my last boat trailer with a different vehicle, opening the hatch would cause it to hit the winch. Inadvertent opening could cause damage. While I am speculating, BMW may have disabled it intentionally.

It'd be nice if that topic was renamed as "US" or something. As I have a foldable tow hitch in the UK, it's perfectly hidden, and the kick-to-open works perfectly.

Your boats must have different winches that can't be hit by the hatch opening...

Is this a problem with the X5 and the clamshell rear hatch? I would think the split hatch should clear a winch pretty well.

There's no issue from my perspective.

I tow a 5-metre (16.5-foot) boat, and the upper & lower hatch is great - they don't get anywhere near the winch, winch post/pole or the bow of the boat which comes slightly more forward than the winch post.

In fact, that is one of the advantages of the X5 over the competition like the MB GLE, Toureg..etc, its the only model that has this clam-shell arrangement which reduces the rear clearance you need when parking close to a wall or for towing.

For the record, I've got the after-factory BMW OEM stealth hitch, and love it. When I'm not towing, the rear is just like normal in terms of aesthetics.

I actually just picked up a trailer for my motorcycle this weekend and pulled it home. Sounds insignificant, but finding a trailer for a BIG American touring bike.... in Europe???? Not so easy.

Anyway.... Hitch is a nice feature. Comes with 2 built-in connections (4-flat, and 7-blade).

My car is white, so the "cutout" in the diffuser stands out. On a black car, it wouldn't be nearly as noticeable. I'm looking into having my diffuser painted black, or wrapped (or hydrodipped) in Carbon fiber. Unless Mperformance comes out with a carbon fiber diffuser for a G05 with a hitch.

The "trailer view" works well, but only up to about 25mph. There is also a SUPER feature that zooms right in on the hitch itself when backing up.... making it really easy to line up the hitch. I mean.... REALLY easy.

Not sure about the mirrors. Trailer was so small, I never even investigated it.

I will take pics next time I hook up, unless someone else does it first.

The maximum weight of the 45e is higher compared to the other models, especially on the rear axe. The maximum structural load of the 22” would be exceeded according BMW.
It is not possible to configure a 45e with towing hitch and 22”

Just in case someone is planning to get Invisihitch....Stay away from Invisihitch! It looks and works fine for the first year and soon after the whole mechanism craps out mainly because of rust and what not. I am just finishing up my F15 X5 lease and can't recall how many times a day i cuss Invisihitch when i look at the so call "Invisible Hitch" on my F15.

Calls and email for support and warranty service were ignored.

In summary, if a hitch is a *must* buy the OEM, not get bedazzled by the crap being made at invisihitch.

My European (portugal) X5 45e with tow hitch disables foot opening of the tailgate! It is however perfectly hidden.

Has anyone found a quiet hitch that allows you to snug up the fit? Took my maiden voyage with the MC trailer and the hitch/receiver fit was so sloppy that the noise drove me crazy.

What problems did you have? My Invisihitch was trouble free for 4 years.

I think Invisihitch and Execuhitch merged into Stealth Hitch. If you literally aren't getting any replies at all from Invisihitch you may want to email Stealth Hitch.

Starting with Year # 2, I have not been able to remove the hitch off. Emailed them multiple times on the email that was on their site, no response. I am not sure how many others have experience this issue, but I know @hmbmd posted same issue I had.

Perhaps, issue is in colder climate (I noticed you are in SA area). But expected service for a $1500 + item that supposedly exceeded OE hitch in every area is hilarious.

Few more months and I won't have to look the peice of crap I paid a ton for!

I also noticed that the receiver and hitch were very noisy and somewhat loose. Used a hitch tightener to snug it up and that removed most of the noise

On a factory or after-factory tow-pack?

I second that question. I have one on order and it’s not too late to change.

Factory hitch. Transmits a lot of noise into car interior and fit of the receiver and hitch drawbar was loose enough that every bump sounded like trailer was coming loose.

Hitch tightener is only about 20 bucks

Yes, the factory hitch seems/sounds like it’s integral to the frame, transmitting a lot of noise. That’s nice in one respect, it’s well attached !
I ordered the hitch tightener, so we’ll see how that plays.

Both the factory hitch and the aftermarket Stealth Hitch replace the rear bumper carrier (the metal under your bumper cover) and are connected to the unibody with eight big ass bolts.

Execuhitch/Invisihitch went out of business December 2018, although they still have a website...strange. They were good new, but the flaw was using steel parts in the mechanism. Stealth hitch is basically the same design, but uses a stainless mechanism. this is a better idea with no corrosion in the mechanism. I still have the Execuhitch and regularly keep it lubricated and hit it with some Fluid Film during winter and long periods when I am not using it. I plan on getting a Stealth hitch when I order my X6MC since there is no factory tow option in North America. I will still maintain the stainless mechanism with lubrication and Fluid Film to keep it working well.
