lol. I think it does balance the look of the car though. for me just make the SUVs look better but its a personal thing
they are roof racks.....purpose served. I am not a fan of driving around with racks on especially when they take 2 minutes to put on and take off. looks good.
I take mine off when not in use too. I would only use them maybe three times a year so it doesn't make sense for me to keep them on.

Unless you're actually using them, they increase drag, so why keep them on?

for me I just like the look the racks bring to the overall look of the SUV. thats just my personal preference. I also dont really think about fuel economy (90% of my drives are from my house to the club at 45mph lol) but even if I did how much impact can 2 cross bars make? Does it impact it that much? Not trying to be condescending, just curious?

I had mine on for about 2 months and the do whistle - so there's that. I experimented with positioning to reduce the whistle but even at what I found to be optimum, it was still there. I will say that after about week or so I just got used to it. But now that they're off - I'm enjoying the quite cabin that much more.

the whistling was my biggest fear. I read a lot of issues on that. I had our service guys put on the OEM ones and I guess BMW added to the design from what we were told and so far no noise at all. I dont get down to the dealership very often bc its about 2 hours from my house but on the drive home 70mph I didn't hear anything so maybe I got lucky orrrrr Im deaf lol could be that, I am pretty old

That's good. The whistle on the Thule's is minor. You hear it about 45+ MPH but with music playing etc it's barely noticiable. Supposedly there's a "hack" where you add 3M tape to the bottom of the rack which will eliminate the whistle.

Also depending on your age, you may not hear the frequency. There's a neat website out there that plays frequencies and depending on where you stop hearing them it will guess your age. Ran it through my office and it was very accurate.

I was going to go with Thule only bc it came in gloss black but then when I was at the store I didn't want to be bother with worrying about it, so I just had the guys slap the OEM ones on, bc we had them in stock.

interesting, send me the link to the site when you get a chance. Ill check it out.

Can't remember if this is the one we used in my office, but I'm sure they're all the same.

Is there a consensus on which rack produces the least amount of wind noise? Also, is it a good idea to stay with a certain brand for all of the other items (e.g. bike/ski rack)?

Thanks.

Ive had the OEM ones on now for a few weeks. have never heard any wind noise so far. I can't comment on attachments or items on the racks I just have the crossbars like you see in my video on the page before

I've seen it quoted you can lose a mpg with them on but I don't think it's in the documentation.

The other thing is you're not supposed to go over 130 km/h with them on, so if you like traveling at higher speeds, it better to keep them off when not in use.

maybe so but for me Im ok with losing a few mpg although I would imagine with just the crossbars it can't be anything drastic maybe 1 mpg. As far as high speeds go, I would imagine you would have to be going pretty fast to have any issues and even then its pretty rare they would fly off. Now if you had attachments on top of the cross bars then yes maybe some of the issues you talk about could arise no doubt!

how's the M2 treating you? you loving it?

Yeah, I think the Thule recommendation is more like a blanket one for all of their products. Just the roof rails vs having a box on them is big difference. They do make a quite a bit of noise at higher speeds though and my dealer will not put the car through their car wash if you have them on. I actually like the way the Mini looks with them on as well. I'll be ordering the OEM ones for the X5 when it gets here.

Slowly but surely getting through the break-in period, can't wait until I can finally open it up. But even at half throttle so far it's a riot.

I know it was stated in the beginning of the thread but want to confirm now 2+ years later...... the OEM BMW f15 roof rack system base fits the G05? Are the parts identical or did BMW update and release a g05 base that is different? Just trying to understand if the f15 "fits" or if the rack f15/g05 systems are identical.

I don't know if this is a F15 part number, but I just purchased and installed part 82-71-2-444-056 last night onto my G05 45e M-sport and it fits perfectly.
