New Wheel Options for M50i

What style and color do you think looks the best with this car? Can interchange the colors to any of the wheels.

Definitely NOT feeling the gold wheel with your CBM paint and Cerium Grey trim. But, hey, that's just me.

Counting the 4 example wheels from L to R with the gold one being #4, I’d go style #4 (the gold one) w/the color/finish of #3 (the one next to the gold one).

I like second from the left, but maybe in black or brushed black.

Personal pick, #3 next to gold. 2 and 4 remind me of Acura brand logo, LOL.

Definitely NOT the far left. Too much empty space between the spokes. The "beefier", the better for an SUV. The other 3 would look great.

Color? Dark blue I believe is best suited for an Aluminum finish. Gold would be 2nd choice. Black and/or gunmetal I think would look bland, because it would blend in to the paint, and have very little contrast.

Dave:

You have good taste. Nice choices you've made.
I think wheels #2 and #4 are the same but in different colors. They are Vossens. I looked at them. These are a great choice but only in gloss black color.

Wheel # 3 is great as well either in the colo shown or gloss black or satin black.

Please DO NOT go Gold. IMO that would be quite unattractive and not befitting your very nice X5. You have made a lot of good styling decisions so far so don't go gold and screw it up. 😁

I read your comment in another post and I agree the X5 and any SUV looks better with more / bigger spokes and a more "filled" wheel. The thin spoked weels look to light for the car.

Personally I would stick with the 742 but that was not your question. Or can you get the 747 wheels?

I think the best look would be the second to the right, (second to the left is the same design as the golden but different colour isn't it?)

I like the "style" of the 2nd from the right the most... because it appears the "deepest", and has sort of a "mesh" look. Just my preference. Admittedly, of all the colors presented, I would choose the gold..... but I know gold wheels are a touchy subject here. People either love them or hate them

Definitely still the 1st set for me, easier to clean lol, but prefer the offset.

I'm biased to the HF-5 because that's what I like and my car being MW, so there you go 😄

The wheels on the X6 at the bottom. Those are the bomb. The ones on the Land Rover are also great.
I don't like the murdered out look, so I would suggest gunmetal or a finish closer to the cerium grey.

But you also know I love the 742s and think they are the most beautiful wheels on the X5.

EDIT: I just checked Vossen's site, and it looks like all of your choices are Vossen wheels! Given that, I'd like to update my colour suggestion to satin bronze, because it's hella good looking:

Thank you everyone for all your helpful feedback. I think I have it narrowed down to wheel #3, the HF-5. I want it to have a little bit of shine so I am thinking of either the Anthracite Finish or the Gunmetal Matte but with a custom gloss added on top. If you look at the S17-01 wheel it is a gloss gunmetal. Obviously this would add more cost of probably 150-200 per wheel. What do you think looks better?

Secondly, when I see pictures of the HF-5 with billet caps it really adds depth and makes the wheels look more expensive. I’m wondering your thoughts if the black with billet blue would look good on mine with the blue break calipers? Or plain black?

FYI, When I Inquired about the HF5 Vossen told me it comes in 22x10/10.5/11/12. Oddly the 11.5 is only offered in forged wheels, the forged counterpart being S21-01, and costs $2500/wheel.

Probably because that’s what they had in stock. Problem is right now the lead time 8-9 weeks.

Hey what precise wheel sizes are you getting?

I’m working with Avant Garde and they want to build this:

22x10.5 et38 front
22x12 et36 rear

That’s a no go for me.

I actually don’t like the look where the wheels stick out more than flush. In fact, the OEM size and offset is perfect for me.

I’m really curious what size and offset Vossen is recommending or what you are going with. Also, care to share the quote? Thanks.

Good wheel choices by the way...

I’m getting the factory sizes with a little more offset. That way I can keep the same tires. Going wider rims and tires is more weight and (especially unsprung) and more money. There has never been a traction issue once on the M50i, even when turning off the traction control. It’s a heavy SOB and with all wheel drive no problem. Maybe if I We’re get a tune with another 100-200 horsepower it would change.

Vossen didn’t offer any recommendations I talked to a custom authorized dealer and we measured a few extra mm to reach the fenders.

Wheel Update

I decided to order the gunmetal matte instead or the anthracite. The gunmetal is pictured on the front wheel and anthracite on the rear. It reflects the light better. For some reason even though the anthracite is more glossy, it softens the edges making it look less interesting to me.

on your choice of gunmetal, balances the overall look and compliments CB.

Anthracite gloss will dull with brake dust and draw more attention to how dusty the wheels are, LOL.
