I always update the first page with the data collected. Currently 46% of owners experience a problem and 29% of owners have taken theirs to a dealer due to having a problem.

Curious as to why people are not taking their car in when they get messages, drivetrain malfunction, high voltage battery and the like. I had those messages, they all went away. I took my car in anyway and they found multiple faults. They are now replacing a faulty module. Is it a shortage of loaners…..it could end up being the car that cried wolf.

I totally agree. Mine was drivable through all 5 CELs/Drivetrain/High Voltage warnings, but each time the dealer found a fault stored or software out of date and did what BMW told them to.

These lights are meant to warn for major faults and I’m not comfortable just letting them malfunction.

Joined forum prior to receiving my 50e. 8,800 miles and received amber warnings for Drivetrain Malfunction and High Voltage System on 4th Feb. Warnings cleared after a few hours but booked in with the dealership to be checked this Friday.

One more for the list...

- Joined way prior (1st bimmer was a 325is)
- Week 20 build X5 50e (5/2023), trouble free until 3700 miles
- CEL after charging overnight (L2 Tesla wall charger, ~50 cycles without problem). Went away after 24h, but took to dealer anyway.
- Dealer had for 3 days, no clear diagnosis. "One time fault for system management" They cleared the fault and retested, no issues (hmm...).

CEL has stayed off for a few days now but waiting for the other shoe to drop. Pity, because took 2 long road trips through inclement weather and this car is excellent overall - performance, utility, comfort.

Dealer experience underwhelming so far. FYI, error code from the key fob was code 2198 - high voltage system, ok to continue driving. Generic OBD reader code U0100 (ECM error).

July 2023 Production, August delivery, no issues, currently at 10K miles. Did just see a note in My Garage that there is a recall for braking system for my VIN. But car shows no warnings.

Joined in 2021 when I was researching the 40i

Came back when researching the 50e for my new lease. Think I will stick around as I really enjoy the info.
No 50e yet so cant complain about it.
Was alarmed to see as many complaints and had me second guessing on 50e but since it is a lease (depending on how it goes) I may buy it out after.

First page updated with the latest data. Looking forward to the next few months to see if there is any difference in the error rate with the newer builds.

Joined the forum prior to purchasing my first BMW - 2024 week 18 build 50e MSport Pro, DAP Pro, Climate Package, Premium Package, Massage seats, etc… essentially everything except the Executive package (thanks to the forum!) First post, but have been hovering/reading for the past year.

Turtleboy - you are very generous with your time and knowledge here.

First CEL experienced after 2000 mile breaking trip Boston to Quebec - Drivetrain malfunction but drive-able, DAP functionality lost, pedestrian acoustic warning non-functional, right side screen went dark. went straight to dealership…they “rebuilt all of the computer modules” after finding multiple faults, including stuck shutter/vent.

Second CEL a few weeks later with a few of the above symptoms - back to the dealership…which blamed battery management faults on my Juicebox Level 2 charger “not responding to the car to slow charging speed as battery approached full”.

Third CEL a month later…same issue plus blank screen. Back to dealership.

Frustratingly, replaced Juicebox with a ChargePoint but an OTA got pushed before I could test it…haven’t had a CEL since but had a few more OTA’s along the way to likely address battery management.

Multiple nav/carplay/BMWiD issues, iphone as key malfunction, wrong speed displayed on HUD, random activation of “assistant”, and a couple service-needed indicators that were sporadic. Low voltage faults were identified amongst others.

Straw that broke the camel’s back was, after the 6th visit, total camera failure plus some repeats of the above, alongside no clear indicator that the car was in park unless it was turned off and back on. All within 2 days of getting the car back. Dealership found repeat low voltage errors. Has me convinced that there’s been a sensor or wiring issue all along, potentially triggering issues (real or not).

Total stats: 4600 miles; 1000 of them to/from dealership and then them testing driving - including a few 200 mile test drives(!).

Now formally offered a trade assist for a MY25. Likely ordering the exact same car but with Individual Color Malachite Green.

Drives incredibly…all the aspects I want/need…just glitchy. Hopefully I don’t lose the lottery again for the new one.

I joined the forum many months before I even ordered.

2024 X5 50e - October 2023 (week 43) build date.

Late October 2023 delivery. 3,725 miles so far and we’ve had no issues at all! (knocks my head!) Actually, we do have the crease on the dash by the passenger airbag (but it’s pretty minor so we’ll live with it).

Love the vehicle very much!

Thanks for all you do, Turtle!

Just taken my 2nd (BMW UK replaced my 1st) 50e back to the dealer after 48Hrs. The car arrived in the UK 2nd Jan 24, arrived at dealer early Feb, took delivery 5th March 24.
Dealer found central locking / comfort access / phone charging tray errors had to order parts from Germany. Installed, tested, confirmed satis and handed over to me.
Central locking failed - keys wouldn't operate car but the MyBMW app would lock/unlock. Once in the car it would start by holding the key the the steering column.
Now back in ANOTHER loaner while they try to resolve the issue.

Joined the site after I bought the 50e on January 20th. Very much regretting not to join before hand.

My car was built Dec 23.

Had high voltage error message within 2 weeks of delivery, went to dealer and got SW update.

Then had CEL at 1000 miles, changed SME module.

Will see how long CEL free period will last...

Well… I previously voted as having joined the forum prior to getting my 50e, and not having an issue.

After 2.5 months and 4800 miles, I have to change my vote. I have now had the dreaded CEL and took it to the dealer.

The truck is throwing an error against the SME module. I am still driving it until they take it in for service next week.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully there are able to fix the issue for good.
