Dealer quoted build time of 2-4 months??

I'm negotiating with dealers for a MY2025 build and I was told that they always tell customers the build time can be 2-4 months. The only item in my config (X5 xDrive40i) that I can see might delay build time is Tanzanite Blue II. I don't have any Individual options.

Is this the dealer just giving a conservative estimate, or are others hearing this as well?

I'm trying to line up a timeline with PenFed for financing, and they only guarantee terms for 30 days.

Garage List
mine took two months from order to delivery (I’m in Virginia), but this was back in October 2020 before the pandemic really hit us. still, 4 months given the way parts are allocated now is conservative but possible.

All depends on allocation and when that allocation is scheduled for. You can complete the whole process in 3-4 weeks if the dealer is able to modify an existing build right before it goes to production but you can also wait months for dealer to get an allocation

Go to BMW USA, click "Shopping", search by your zip code. See what dealers in your area have MY25 "In Production", call them and see if they have any allocations for MY25 for Weekly 14,15,16 or 17.

Sorry. I should have mentioned that I'm working with dealers that have allocations. This particular dealer has an allocation but still gave me the 2-4 month timeline.

Assuming I'm not changing anything when the order is put in, I was just surprised to see the timeline... unless they are factoring in parts availability issues.

scottie31 Based on my experience and assuming your dealer has an allocation I'd say 8--12 weeks is realistic baring any supply chain or transportation issues.

Great thank you LDT. Seems inline with what others have reported.

I would say they are not even close to reality if they have an allocation. That would mean that the latest it would be built would be the last week of April. You are in the Midwest so it will likely take 2-3 days shipping. As long as there are no major delays then you would get it in 5-6 weeks max.

Thanks TurtleBoy. Seems like I see a lot of 5-6 weeks posts when the MY production is in full swing. Maybe this is just their standard response but it definitely felt long considering I have no Individual options in my build.

It could be just something standard used whether the vehicle is built in SC or Germany. The key is if they have an allocation. If they can give you a production number when, or a couple days later, you put your order in then you know you have an allocation. At that point you can get your build week from Genius.

The timing matters as to when you are ordering. Let's say you ordered next week after new allocations came out. If they had no old then it could be close to 8 weeks if the allocation you got was for the end of May.

Thank you all for your help with my questions. Armed with all the great information on these forums made negotiating very easy.

My only problem now is constantly checking to see when my status code moves from 112 (scheduled) to 150 (production begins).

another data point - for you or for others just now ordering - mine looks to be 6-7 weeks from order to (estimated) delivery (pittsburgh). my dealer had two 111 slots ready to go. it an $87 build (so most of the options?) in tanzii/tartufo. ordered 4th april; genius told me week 20 production (13th-17th may) or ~6wks lead time order to production and ~a week to deliver.

My order date was April 9th with an available allocation. This morning (4/10) status changed from 111 to 112. I called the Genius hotline and my build week is 17 (April 21-27). I was surprised given the timelines I've seen recently. Fingers crossed.

LOL. The dealer I ended up going with is a Center of Excellence dealer and they had over a dozen allocations available. Once the order was placed I used the "F12" process to see what step it was on. At order time it was 111. The next morning it moved to 112.

Here's the "F12" process, compliments of TurtleBoy :

Ordered M60i yesterday. Dealer had soonest available allocation for week 19 build (May6-10). Got order confirmation today from BMW. Will likely be checking status at least daily for the next 2 months.... 111 for now.

Newbie here, I see a lot of people posting a week for their delivery. What does it equate to? Week 20 for example is the 20th week of the year??

BMW uses ISO weeks for their manufacturing scheduling.
