How long does it take for DTC3 to register? I failed my emmsions. I have BimmerpostCode and BimmerLink. Where do I go to see if it is ready?

Yes, you never want to do anything with coding, clearing, etc. when you are close to getting an emissions test. It seems like once or twice a year we have folks post that they failed due to it. You may be the one for 2024. I would wait a few weeks and try again.

I just got the X5 and did not even think about it. I will give it a few weeks and take it back. That should give it time to run all its cycles. But yes, I will remember that next time

The reason this happens is that DTCs are set during coding, and are immediately cleared as part of the BimmerCode (or similar program) routine. A global DTC clear resets monitors (including emissions monitors) and they will report as incomplete until they complete the necessary criteria. This could be a drive cycle, multiple drive cycles, a certain "soak" time between drive cycles, lots of things. Certain monitors reporting as incomplete will cause failure.

Unfortunately I can't speak with any authority to the workings of local emissions tests, only to the workings of the engine management system including FMVSS aspects.

My suspicion is that they (local emissions tests) are looking at both "miles since last DTC clear" and for certain emissions monitors to report as "complete OK". You MAY be able to pass with just a universal OBD drive cycle (google it), IDK.

I had to take a 100-mile round trip (50 miles to and 50 miles back) to pass the emission test in TX
