If it were me I would add extended warranties to either vehicle and I would want to inspect them in-person. You can't see the true condition/quality of paint from pics in my opinion. I totally hear you though that 500 miles away makes this challenging.

Not sure if any of that helps but that was my experience.

I’m now focusing on one car. Biggest drawback seems to be the tires—Pirelli summers. I’d really prefer all season due to winter concerns. What has people’s experience been driving an X5MC in winter conditions—i.e., periodic snow and somewhat frequent freezing temperatures? The major reason for trading in my current car (an E63S) is that it’s virtually undriveable in winter. I could always put different tires on my Mercedes, but I already have an M8 for performance and think an X5 would be more versatile—assuming better winter performance. Thanks, Mike

One of my best friends is a major US wholesaler sells about 600 cars a week, he won’t let me buy a Canadian car and always tells me DO NOT BUY A CANADIAN CAR! I don’t know all the exact reasons but as he sells 600+ cars a week I tend to listen to his advice….. very sharp guy with extended knowledge of all types of vehicles. He does buy and sell Canadian cars and I know they always sell below national average. Something to consider….
Sapphire black is a beautiful color and pictures do not do it justice. My previous 2017 X5 was sapphire black and I’ve never been fond of black cars but I loved it. Pops in the sunlight. I agree if warranty is a concern look for lower mileage but be aware lower mileage doesn’t exactly mean better taken care of. Like Doug Demuro said in one of his latest podcast interviews, read the descriptions, look at every single detail carefully including all the records and buy the seller. If it’s a dealer a little more difficult to do but buy the extra warranty for piece of mind. I would say though it feels most X5M owners are responsible adults that take care of their SAV’s ![]()

I do say if because every dealer is different has a different market and markets are ever changing, plus your condition, maintence records, and any extra goodies will def come into play. I just know whenever I was looking for a car id see one selling for a good deal and he’d just say no 👎 no good pass on it, its previously Canadian. I know he’s had a ton of them and even used to buy them from Canada and sell them here and no longer does that but still moves units galore every week…..

Given the great advice from all of you, I’ve got to abandon my dream of an X5MC. Can’t get all season tires and unwilling to spend ah extra $3,000+ on extra winter tires and wheels—something I routinely did when I lived in Minnesota for 30 years. Thank you all for your help.

+1 on this. I also have these Conti all seasons installed on my stock wheels and they are awesome. They were only available in 5% taller sidewall but they fit great and it's nice having a little more thickness to ride on.

They are not available in the exact OEM size. You can get them with a 5% taller sidewall and they fit well, no rubbing, no issues with rolling diameter, etc.
