40i First Day Impressions
Picked up my 40i M sport 20" Phytonic Blue, Tartufo, anthracite poplar matte trim, leather dash, night viz, luxury seat, acoustic glass, prem pack 2, drivers assist pro, exec pack today.
Replaced my '15 m sport 50i. The 40i rides much more smoothly and noticeably more quiet. Not as sharp handling, but more sedate and composed in general driving. Different tires may be part of that. I miss the 50i growl and grunt--who wouldn't--but the 40i is smooth and torquey. Haven't thrashed it yet, because run-in. I like the motor though. Idrive is much improved. Way more intuitive. Very well done. Phytonic blue is very nice, but a bit darker than I expected. I have the impression that the msport, with the body colored extra bits, makes it seem darker than if it had the chrome accents of the non msport. 20" 740M wheels. Do not like them. They don't go well with the phytonic, in my personal opinion. Regret that choice. Tartufo is very nice. I agonized over that choice as many online pics made it look orange. It's NOT orange. Damn digitized pics kept me awake at night worrying about that one. Fret not. Tartufo is nice. The thing that helped me decide was someone posted a pic of the several large swathes of the different colors, with tartufo, cognac, and coffee together. That made it obvious that tartufo was darker than the cognac and digital pics are liars. Luxury/massage seats are brilliant. My 6'5", old, bad-back having goofy ass likes these seats. Night vision. I'm waiting for a deer--of which there are many here in Texas hill country--to get in it's sights. So far it picked up a dude bending down to check his mailbox by the side of the road. Didn't see him with the dipped headlights. There wasn't any danger, and it was more of a "gee whiz, would you look at that?" moment. But it seems to work as advertised. Heated/cooled cup holders kept my coffee fairly warm. Laser lights. Honestly can't tell much difference with the laser lights over whatever the good lights on my F15 were called. Definitely not enough to justify the cost. The lights do seem more active than F15 ones...you can see them moving much more with wheel input. Driving assistance is going to take getting used to. But I think that's likely true with any marque's driving assistance kit. Only big gripe so far is the connected drive app and vehicle aren't talking well. Perhaps I should have had the dealer help me set that up. No patience though. Story of my life. |

I'd have liked to have seen more options in a 20". Next time I order a vehicle, I'll try harder to get eyes on the actual colors and wheels. I relied mostly on pics and the selection of vehicles at my local dealer. |

Nice, congratulations! I was nervous about tartufo too until I seen one at the dealer. Ended up upgrading from standard coffee to tartufo extended for my order.

That night vision'll make you nauseous if you activate it in the display and look at it too much. It's interesting to see where heat emanates from other cars...the tires and undercarriage |

I have Tartufo as well and came from a car with Cognac. Tartufo is much darker and better in person. The below pictures are from my X5, they will never do it justice as many have mentioned.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have m-sport/Phytonic Blue/740m wheels and love the wheels. Different stokes I guess.

Those are some of the better Tartufo pictures I've seen. I have not seen it in person but it is clear from my research that cameras have a hard time with this color especially in bright sunlight. Now I have to reconsider my choice of color. I originally specified Tartufo and then changed to Ivory. I think still have time though....

I just looked. I don't have the wee doors/hatches for the headlight washers. Not too bummed though. I don't live in the UK any more, where the endless dirty, wet, grimy road shite necessitates them. Just gotta worry about whitetails flinging themselves at my gorgeous blue laser lights. |

The good thing is that you don't have to deal with them spraying all over the hood. |

2. I live north of Fredericksburg on a state highway and yes, we have one of the highest number of deer in Texas. I cringe to think of driving home to the farm after dark from town. It's great to know the night assistance program might safe guard you and me. Can I assume you bought from San Antonio BMW, and how did that go? Mine is still in "Waiting Carrier Assignment" Enjoy your ride and thanx. |

Interesting. My build stayed in "Scheduled for Production" for a few weeks even after I was told it was too late to add a few options. Maybe that was a call on the part of the dealership....didn't want to hassle with it, internal stuff going on.

When those were taken no, since then yes. I condition them weekly as I've done with all cars

Hmmmm....well, mine is a week 10 build and still in 112 status (scheduled for production). I just emailed my salesman and he changed it. I can even see it on "my bmw" instantly. I know at some point it won't be changeable, perhaps even while still in 112 status. In this case it still was.

Turns out I WILL be seeing it in person, in MY car! Just made that change. The white would have looked super cool but maybe a little too precious for me. My last x5 was Mocha and I did always love that color. This Tartufo is a nice update. Thanks again for the pics.
