Let's play a game!

It's called will it buff out????

Wife ran into a plastic construction drum in a parking lot. Blames it on construction worker sneaking it in front of her but you know damn well she was texting.

So what do you think?? Will it buff out lmao!

Taking it to attempt the buffing out Saturday

Oh well, now you don't have to wait for the first one. And at least she said "yeah, I did it" like a boss instead of "I don't know how that happened" like a weasel

I'll bet you could make it pretty good and close to not being noticeable with some buffer time, but you'll have to decide if you can live with it or not... because you'll always know it's there.

PPF would protect against this?

Well, these things happen. Some will buff out, others won’t. It depends if you can live with minor road rash marks. I hate to say it but a body shop may be required to have your Carbon Black virgin again. No marks on the Laser lights?

No just on the paint thank god. I made sure to take pics that made it look the worst possible. It doesn't look as bad in normal light.

Yes the films def protect against this. Once I was driving my PPF covered X3 on the freeway and large piece of steel belted 18 wheeler tire hit my hood HARD.... when I got off the freeway and looked I was shocked to see the tire left a large impression on the hood. My heart sank...I removed the film later and the paint underneath was completely undamaged. From that point I was sold on PPF perm and all my vehicles have PPF. Wouldn't drive without.

I dunno - is it cheaper to replace the PPF or buff it out?

That looks like it will mostly buff out.

I like to use a random orbital buffer and 3M Finesse-It II. This combo will generally handle most minor paint issues. My wife has helped me test this concept multiple times...on multiple cars.

Here in Texas we have 2 conditions you must meet before your new car is truly broken in:

1. Spilled your beer,
2. Scratched the paint.

So far I've gotten one of the two out of the way.

Speaking of buffing....your wife needs to pay for her sins - make her buff it out in the buff while you play some sexy jazz in the background.

Works for my vineyard/winemaking activities.

I would love to try correcting this with my buffer. I have done some bad scuffs on my wife’s black Audi but nothing this bad. The positive is that carbon black is real soft paint. It polishes out real easy. I can’t tell by the pics how deap the scuffs go? Thank goodness it hit your laser light. That would be a game changer in what this is gonna cost you.

Yes, it would've damaged the PPF worst case, but that's easy to replace, paint would've been fine

If I remember correctly, your wife likes to use a dry microfiber cloth on the X5. Have her try rubbing real hard with one and see if there is any difference.

Hope they are able to get it looking good without too much expense.

LMAO yep that is my wife! We got the car paint corrected and ceramic coated so she knows her limits now. Unfortunately i have to wash it myself to keep it swirl free.

I had some scratches similar to the ones in your second picture on my Arctic Grey X5. I used some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound with my Griot's orbital (orange correcting pad) and it got rid of them. It probably took me less than 10 minutes total from start to finish. The scratches in your first picture look a little deeper, but it's hard to tell if they made it through the clear coat.

The only reason we can laugh at this is because we know how selective you have to be owning Carbon Black. Those with white colors would never understand what we do for a perfect finish. But we get all the women so its worth it
