Does anyone know if there is a PenFed discount for non-military folks? I am a PenFed customer, but I am not military. On the PenFed website I see a link into Truecar, but nothing more than that.
BMW started using PenFed to administer their Military discount when USAA got out of the car business (it was never a PenFed incentive). Unlike USAA though, PenFed allows non-military related folks to join so they end up getting the military discount also. BMW has since started using a veteran verification service on both their site and TruCar to verify folks are veterans.

As far as your question goes, scroll down the page a little further and you will see the various manufactures that offer incentives. Click on BMW, log in and you should be able to get your certificate.

Ok, thanks. It sounds like in the past I could be a PenFed member and get a discount. But now that's not possible, since I'm not military. Thanks!

No, that is not at all what I said. Just follow the instructions I gave and you will get the discount certificate unless they changed the process since the other day.

Edit: I just tried it and was able to get the offer form. I guess it is possible that it is picking up my prior veteran verification that I did on TrueCar (not for PenFed) but have not heard from anyone else that they were not able to get the certificate.

Oh, got it. I see the certificate now! Earlier, you said that the discount was $500. In the certificate it says:

BMW X5 + M (Excludes X5M Competition)
$3,250

Does this have to do with what you can/can't stack with loyalty ($1000) and financing ($2500)

It is $500 when you finance or lease with BMWFS. If not, then it is $3,250.

So, it's either:

$1000 - Loyalty
$2500 - Lease
$500 - PenFed
-------
$4000

or:
$1000 - Loyalty
$3250 - PenFed
--------
$4250

No, Loyalty is only available when you lease or finance. It would be $3,250 for paying cash/outside sources or $500 plus available/applicable incentives when leasing or financing with BMWFS.

I did not use BMW financing, and was able to stack military ($3,250) + BMW cash ($2,500). Was also able to stack a test drive incentive as well, but not conquest or my company's corporate incentive.

Could have been a special program or more than likely the dealer reclassifying something. APR credit, if that is what you mean by BMW cash, is only available when financing with BMWFS.

I was offered 10% off on custom build M X50I and 8% on X5M.
are these any good?

I read 11% is standard norm for X5 in east coast.

Greatly appreciate the input.

You got some bad information, especially in these times. Folks in NJ, which generally has one of the highest discount percentages, seem to be struggling to get 8% off. If you are getting a true 10% then that is a good deal.

Interesting I was assuming the demand might have gone down in last two years with the EV rise.
Is this attributed to the shortage of the circuit chips.
It is true 10% but there is a 500$ dealer fee.

I think the opposite, demand is higher and supply shorter from what we are seeing. The chip shortage s coming into play with some options.

What I mean by a true 10% is the dealer discount without incentives being included. What incentives are you getting with the deal?

In addition to the incentives, you also want to make sure the dealer isn't marking up either the finance rate or the money factor depending on whether you're financing or leasing the vehicle.

If there is a mark up then that brings down your effective discount.

Yes dealer discount with out incentives.
No markup on the Money Factor. 500$ incentive not included in the discount. Not eligible for Loyalty

Then that is a very good deal given what we have seen recently.

If you don't have loyalty you can see if your company offers corporate fleet discount. Loyalty and Corp fleet dont stack but in your case you should be able to use Corp fleet if it's offered by your employer.

I'm also in NJ and was able to get 10% from one dealer in December, but I did not know at the time that they were manipulating the money factor on the back end. Eventually I had to go elsewhere to get a true 10% before the $500 inventive. At this point, I had to ensure that the money factor wasn't abused. It seems that stayed that way as the numbers I was told held true to what was discussed in February when I ordered. Time to close the deal tomorrow and finally get the wheels.
