3029 miles...and first service

So my Service Engine light came on for the oil - at 3029 miles and 8 months of service.

No biggie - as I'm a fan of over changing the oil anyway. My new Seattle dealer did something I have never seen a dealer do in Los Angeles - take a full video of the car with walkaround and wheels for their records. Then while it was on the lift with the tech - they also sent me a vid of it being worked on.

On top of that...had a software update too. I still dislike that after the updates I have to go back in and change settings. Not sure why it can't just save them. Mainly the Apple Carplay and Bluetooth/Wireless settings.

Liked the experience of my new dealer - in and out on a busy Saturday in an hour and a half.

had mine in to dealer a few weeks ago and got the same emai/text while I was waiting for them to bring car around. Just a prep for them to sell me brakes, tires, etc.

My son has his VW serviced by his local VW dealership and they have been taking video's of his cars for the past couple of years when its on the lift and sending it to him for his review before they do the work. The tech talks to the issue during the video and you can watch and listen to the various sounds the car makes while they are troubleshooting. If I recall correctly, they send him a link to the hosting site where the video is.

this might be a one-time offering; at least at my dealership, it'll cost for subsequent service visits of this type. i can't remember what it's called (my complimentary coupon is at home), but it's like an upgraded service visit where you're alongside the service tech.

Wow, I've never heard of that. That's pretty awesome and is a cool way to get customer engagement and confidence in their work. Lots of mechanics have bad reps, a bit like lawyers and dentists. Really helps with transparency.

BMW dealers in the U.K. have had this for a while (even before COVID) with a company called Citgo (I think) - very useful so you can see what's wrong and also tyre tread depth remaining.

Only took my car in to have the BMW Dash Cam replaced since the original wasn't working properly and got a video walkaround too, which I wasn't expecting considering my car didn't go in for any service etc!
Had the same videos with my previous VW too.

Only issue with them lifting my car is that I have Autowatch Ghost installed, which I place into valet mode when dropping the car off, but I think it resets when it senses the car is off of the ground as it reactivates and exits valet mode - so I get a call telling me they cant get my car out of the service area! lol
End up having to tell them the code. Not a biggie as its easily changed later....

My dealer in Townsville Australia has being doing this for a couple of years now. The service advisor sends me a link to my mobile and gives a commentary as they video the technicians checking the tyres brakes drive shafts condition etc

Mine does it also. Last year I was trying to get them to update my iDrive and they even made a video of them checking the site and showing there were no updates available for my vehicle (it only shows if there is a specific problem to be addressed). Obviously I knew there was so contacted the shop foreman and he took care of it for me.
