parking maneuver assist

I am wondering if I could drive forward, record the maneuver, and play it back in reverse. I have a tight fit in my garage and when I try to record my reverse park maneuver, it does not work because I have to go back and forth multiple times ( I am terrible at reverse parking). I was thinking I get into the garage once with lot of difficulty and then drive out and record and play it in reverse when I want to park next time….. )

You’ll have to initiate the playback maneuver from *exactly* the same spot each time, as when you recorded it. Would that be realistic?

Also it does not work when the fit is tight - defeating the purpose

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, I thought reverse assist let's you do exactly that. You drive into your garage. Hit reverse assist and it reverses automatically up to 50m. I use the feature all the time when parking in tight spots or reversing on long winding driveways.

My problem is I want to reverse into garage once, have the car remember it and then I can execute the reverse park any number of times worry free. The issue I have is because I am poor at reverse parking, I go back and forth multiple times and the car for some reason does not remember the path and back and forth is not efficient. Instead, when I reverse park into my garage with a lot of difficulty, I want to get of garage, record that path and play it backwards… makes sense

I did not realize I had to be in the precise spot, I assumed it activates when the car approaches the proximity circle and it could take over from there. If what you are saying is true, I agree with you, it is pretty useless

Aah. I get it now. Yeah not sure how to do that. Don't believe my 2022 can do it.

It does work well when you're close enough. I've recorded my "garage" parking, any time I get close to my driveway, it asks if I want to start running it. I do have a tight spot in a 2 car garage, it parks very well. Even when the second car is not in the garage, it parks in its recorded spot.

Just try it.

Thanks. I will give it a try, but I have to overcome my first problem of reverse parking 😊

I need help… I tried recording a path, but it seems like by the time I get into my garage it stops recording probably because of poor GPS signal and does not give me the option to save path. I am not sure how to overcome this limitation…

How are you folks using this capability making it work?

I believe it is part of Park assist package and available on both.

I just read about GPS repeater and they are available for about $100 that can be installed in a garage for robust GPS signal. I think this could make record path more useful. Has anyone tried a device like this?

How useful is this feature anyways? I’ve not even attempted to try it because I figured you would need to be in the exact same spot for a recorded maneuver to be successful, which I don’t think is realistic.

I'm wondering why it's so important to reverse park in the first place. I have a tight space so I just drive in front first then let the back-up assistant take over when I'm pulling out. Works every time and no stress over trying to back in (or out).

Maybe because there is a wall where the driver side door is when you pull in front first and you are too close to the wall to open the door?

It is, or at least used to be, a safety issue. If you back in while parking, you just scanned the spot and know that it is cleared and are backing in immediately. If you back out after parking there is a delay in getting into the car and starting it which could allow a person to wander behind the vehicle unnoticed.

How important this is in recent years with reverse cameras and sensors is a good question, though.

There's a lot of people who received additional safety training who do this out of habit even if the need has possible gone away.

Well, I have to give kudos to the OP for inspiring me to test this feature out and give it a chance. It works surprisingly well… you don’t have to start in the exact same spot as the original recording to initiate a recorded path. You just have to be close enough and the car will steer itself into the exact recorded path. Pulling into my garage is a bit tricky but the recorded path achieved it with exact precision. Now pulling into and out of my garage is automated.

You need to be close, but it doesn’t need to be exactly. If you’re close enough to the original staring position, the car will steer its way into the recorded path.
