I guess the Genius is not one after all. I suspect it may have to do with a software update. I am running .35 and have an apt to get it upgraded to the latest version - .45 or even .48 from what I read here on the forum.

Maybe they just put it in the latest version but have not seen anyone mention now having the option to turn on the braking intervention.

No option for me on my settings. Hopefully with a software update it should come up?

Highly unlikely but maybe they just put it in and it will.

On the screen setting Frontal Collision intervention includes both warning and braking of vehicle and pedestrian.

This is the issue that I was having, no warning whatsoever. I did take it to the dealer. There was a “recall” on some of my driving assistance functions including frontal collision warning. They reprogrammed everything and at least I get the warning, it’s hard to test the breaking function because the vehicle waits till the last minute. Yours might need the be reprogrammed like mine.
Do you have different options in idrive now and what version of software do you have?

Could anyone other then "Xeno" with software version of 2019.37 and above confirm that Auto braking is working?

What do you mean by auto braking, for parking (which I don't think is available for anyone) or emergency braking which quite. a few people have experienced as well as it being verified by independent testing.

Isn't this topic about Auto Braking?

I mean automatic braking when you get too close an object with City or Highway speed. of course no one could test highway speed but I'm talking about self test with low speed when from back or front.

I saw on post #106 Xeno was the only one who confirmed he got Auto Braking with 2019.37.

No, it is a mix. Look a few posts up, people are talking about braking intervention in PDC.

There have been numerous posts about auto braking working as well as it getting rated Superior by IIHS. No one has reported yet that it is not working only that they intervened before it may have come on.

By the way, did you see in the IIHS results that one of the auto braking tests did not stop completely before a collision, but slowed it down to like 2 mph? I thought that was interesting.

Yes I did. What I thought was interesting is that it was on the tests with the Driving Assistance Professional which is the top package.

I can confirm that today I experienced the forward collision intervention activate for the first time. I am on 03/2019.48.

Decided to test it whilst the roads were quiet with an unsuspecting Honda Civic in front turning right. I was approaching fast with my foot off the accelerator and hovering over the brake - perhaps in the past having the accelerator depressed prevented it working. Anyway, the red warning symbol appeared in HUD and Instrument Cluster then a second later the audio alarm sounded and the attention grabber LEDs on the wheel flashed red and it applied the brakes. Once the Civic had turned out of the way it let off the brakes.

I've noticed it appear more often since I was upgraded to .48 and the ACC / Steering Intervention is much smoother. Anyone else who has had the upgrade notice the change?

Whoa, interesting story. Been a lot of talk and angst on this subject, but no one with first-hand experience.

I would say you have major nuts . . . Be cautious what you do with them.

I wasn't brave enough to let it go till Auto brake but here is the red warning symbol I've got so far.

While parking in my garage mine activated to stop me from hitting a broom that fell over... The wife thought I was messing around and being jerky with the brakes. To be honest my foot wasn't on the brake or gas at the time of the stop. I thought I hit the wall...

I was on the highway the other day and traffic came to an abrupt stop and I had a car driving very close behind. All the warnings came up, HUD, Display, Sound and Seat Belts tightened up. The X5 ended up in the other lane. Either my reflexes were damn good or the the X5 manoeuvred to the other lane. Not sure what happened but I'm glad I was out of harms way.

So does the X5 have Active Braking that would bring the vehicle to a stop?

Yes it has Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) however I suspect it has only worked properly since a recent software update. It also has Evasion Assistance which is what this sounds like...

I had a very similar experience few days back, a van pulled in front of me from other lane at a v slow speed, i applied the brake however the car applied the brake more forcefully and beeped

In the instrument cluster, in addition to the red car symbol (shown in the pics above), the central part of the cluster where it shows navigation turned into a red background color..

Edit -- My software version is 03/2019.45

Thanks! That describes my scenario exactly. I guess it worked where I initiated the lane change allowing me to do so because it was clear. I have 03/2019.45. Still no Experience Modes and Caring Car but that's ok as long as those safety features work.
