Too wax or not too wax , at the drive thru carwash

We have a very nice carwash that I frequent near my home. Drive thru and it sprays/scrubs/washes/etc ... the attendant will always ask if I would like hot wax application during the wash . I always say no... is there a reason I should or should not have the wax applied during the carwash ??

This place charges $29 for a carwash (never in my lifetime would I have thought I'd spend $29+ for a carwash.. I get the unlimited monthly pass for $60.. I bought it for the winter, and thought I'd cancel it in the spring/summer, but never did)

It's not worth having the wax for the following reasons...

• it'll just be removed when you next take your car through the car wash.

• your paintwork will be already trashed because you've taken it through a car wash.

I wouldn't take my car within a thousand miles of an automated car wash.

I've got two bad rotator cuffs, thus hand washing, unfortunately, is something I can not do

My suggestion is to get a paint correction to fix what the car wash did to your clear coat then get it ceramic coated

Then-

Buy a pressure washer and a foam cannon for round 1 of the car wash.

Round 2 use a hand mitt to wash down, no scrubbing just going over the surface, this step requires the shoulder strength and flexibility of a quadriplegic child.

Round 3 hose down and blow off using a blower.

Or maybe hire a detailer to come every two weeks?

Most car washes really destroy a cars finish, I'd avoid them (unless touchless) at any cost.

My suggestion is to find someone who can come detail your vehicle at your home. A simple wash n spray wax is often enough. Then, twice a year, have them apply a good wax, sealant or coating. Should be plenty. Don't let anyone tell you you have to invest thousands in maintaining the paint on a daily driver X5.

Agree...touchless car wash, supplemented by detailing when required.

I drive about 10 miles over the Wisconsin border to one of the newer built Kwik-Trips just to get an automatic touchless wash. Also gas is cheaper up there, so it's win-win.

Only one decent manual car wash around anymore, but not happening in the winter.
