Apple's next-gen Carplay announced for cars starting late next year, BMW not included
Pretty amazing and clean how it takes over all the car's screens.
Verge video and article: https://twitter.com/verge/status/153...er-integration https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/6/23...er-integration I'm very surprised BMW is not included in the initial list for next generation Carplay. Their connected screens we see for iDrive 8 would work perfectly with this. Not to mention that BMW was one of the first to implement widescreen Carplay, then wireless Carplay, then BMW Key in iPhones. |

I'm not surprised BMW doesn't trust Apple CarPlay with its instrument cluster. The instrument cluster is key to delivering critical and time sensitive information to the driver. Above everything, this is a matter of safety.
I can't remember how many times I had to reboot my iPhone for CarPlay to function again. |

While I think this is great (and I don't have the issues with CarPlay and phones needing a reboot), you do need to think about the reliability and how the system will hand-off (quickly!) to the native system if there are issues.
Still, Apple and the manufacturers have to start somewhere. |

I see Volvo and Polestar are included but they are moving all their cars to a Google operating system. I find it odd that the new CarPlay will work with them but not BMW.

I never had issues with CarPlay dropping until the most recent BMW update with my iPhone X. I suspect the software problems arise from BMW's end, as usual. |
