From what I'm reading I can use the corprate with the military for a total of $5,500 off the best deal I can secure. I'll do outside financing or pay cash.
Crap!

Just found the fine print further down where it calls out military!

"BMW Corporate Sales Program incentive cannot be used in conjunction with Car Club of America (CCA), College Graduate Program, Group Partner & Family Program, OL event codes, Diplomatic and Embassy Program, Military Sales Program, Limousine & Hotel Shuttle Program, and VIP Purchase Program."

Thanks again!

How long does it take to get the discount code? I submitted through ID.ME two days ago and nothing yet.

As soon as you qualify you get a link on the screen to print off the certificate. Did you do it on TrueCar or BMW's site. Don't use BMW's since a dealer is involved in most instances.

Edit: Did you qualify online immediately or did you submit materials for the qualification?

TurtleBoy Do you happen to know if the military discount can apply if the purchaser is an eligible natural person but the car is being sold to his LLC (in other words, the purchaser is a legal entity controlled by the eligible buyer)?

From what I can see online there is not much discussion on it. BMW Genius is not very genius on this issue either. Several dealerships near me gave me conflicting answers.

Thanks for any insight!

My understanding is that business purchasers are not eligible since the name on the certificate is supposed to match the name on the paperwork. That said, some dealers may overlook that requirement and hope it doesn't get caught on audit, hence the conflicting answers.

In my experience you can join NavyFed and get the certificate immediately.

Just saying.

I am doing an out of State purchase for my X5 E50. I just got the sales paperwork from the dealer and the military incentive is taken AFTER sales tax was computed.

On the face of it I would think the sales tax would be computed after the military incentive not before it. Why would you pay sales tax on value you didn't pay for?

Anyone have experience with this? Is the dealer right or wrong?

It varies by state, the chart in this article shows you whether or not sales tax is charge on incentives for each state.

https://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/w...d-you-pay.html

What my dealer has done for my deals is not show the military rebate as a rebate but counted it as part of the dealer discount. This way I didn't have to pay sales tax on it.

Ok - I appreciate the quick response!

Still seems wrong in terms of fairness to the tax payer but looks like its Ok per the rules in both the state I reside in and the state where the dealer is.

Since we are in the same state, out of curiosity what state are you buying from?

Buying from MD - 8% off plus 4k military off the X5 50E. In CO the best I could do on the front range was 2k off and most were at MSRP.

Yes, we are still on the low side of the discount range. Hopefully that changes in the future but I'm not sure it will.

Yeah I gave a couple of CO dealers a shot at coming close adjusting for shipping and broker cost and they wouldnt budge. I guess their logic was they can sell their allocations without discounts. Still you'd think the more they sell with production ramping up would make sense as supply issus ease.

For me wasnt hard to engage a broker and have the car shipped to save thousands.

Do you know if the military discount is always available on top of getting the dealer to discount the price? Did you bring the military discount up at the beginning or later in the conversation?

Military discount is available independently of dealer, loyalty and other manufacturer discounts. However if you finance with BMW Financial the military discount is capped at $500. You can bring it up anytime but you aren't required to do so until delivery.

Will this military credit apply again if I purchase or finance my X5 at the end of my lease? FWIW, I did use the credit when I leased the car.
