No, it applies to Canada as well (meaning they will fit/work together) unless you guys have the X5's made with special wheels and brakes.

Edit: I suppose the foam from the F15 could be different enough to interfere with the LCP.

If you could post a pic or two, especially showing the spare with the bottom of your deck up, that would be fantastic and much appreciated. I need to prove to my dealer (and BMW Canada) that the parts exist, will fit, and that the two motors under the rear deck will not interfere with the spare.

I don't doubt that they will work/fit together, but like LexxM3 discovered, proving it to BMW Canada & its dealerships is a daunting task, to say the least. They have literally refused to place the order for me because they are certain that I am wrong, based on what BMW Canada is telling them.

Appreciate it, especially if your going to do so anyways. I was trying to co-ordinate getting the parts with the delivery of my vehicle, but that wont happen now anyways, so no rush.

I figured you can show them the US pricing guide as proof they can be ordered together although it sounds like BMW Canada is giving bad info to dealers and they are sticking with it.

Ok, finally got a chance to try the mythical spare wheel over front M Sport brakes on a Canadian X5. Fits fine, see pics. BMW Canada are complete morons.

They will, of course, but I will prove that shortly as well — my winter setup is not finished yet (surprising fit issue with rear winter rims, my fault) and the X5 is parked for a few days in the sudden new snow we are getting here today.

Well, then, there's potentially a difference between right and left, so.... Just thinking like BMW Canada. Or maybe it only works on white X5s. Gotta factor that in.

I was so pissed that after putting the spare on my order, the dealer failed to realize that is would revert the trunk back to old school manual cover instead of the nice (especially when you have a 100+lbs dog) electrically maneuverable cover. Now I'm pissed again that I find this thread saying the spare would fit under the electric cover.
Funny detail is that I spend a week driving on my runflat with a 1/4 inch bolt in it while waiting for someone to find what seemed like the last tire matching the others (with 3000 miles on it), while my mini spare was nice and comfortable in the trunk. Tire came in just in time too...

Thanks for visually verifying that BMW Canada are, in fact, complete morons. There was some lingering doubt.

Congrats on a successful project completion, a slower than planned start fueled an on time and budget completion. For your next project, you will be rewarded with an even more difficult task for the same pay... .. Create and release successful transmission and installation of OTA updates

Awesome chart. I have not had implied vendor stupidity vs customer frustration charted out before — helpful ;-).

The physical testing was possible due to another, way more complex than it should have been, project — aftermarket winter wheels. That was "interesting" and I'll document that elsewhere with pics when the car is clean.

I will add a couple of further "things learned" regarding the spare:
 • the spare uses stock lug bolt lengths (M14x1.25, 27mm shank) — good so far
 • on one of my stock rims, one of the stock bolts is permanently stuck to the rim (dealer will be dealing with that on next visit); all other bolts on all other rims are fine; note that the stock bolts are these weird "bolt plus loose cone washer"-type things and I suspect the washer got embedded in the rim somehow at the factory — turns fine, but doesn't come out of the lug hole in the rim
 • if that was the wheel that required the spare, I would NOT have been able to mount it — not enough bolts
 • if you put on aftermarket rims and/or spacers, chances are good you'll need different length bolts and those different length bolts will likely NOT work for the spare
 • for those multiple reasons, I am now carrying a full set of 5 stock bolts with the spare kit
 • bonus: turns out it is really easy to leave the wheel lock key inside the key bolt after mounting the last rim and subsequently lose it after driving away

I've seen this type before. You know they are going to just hammer it out, right? You might want to somehow mark it so you will know whether you got the hammered out one with ruined threads put back on or if they gave you a new one

Been there, done that, but it was just in my garage. Finished changing the wheels/tires, then when putting my tools back, I couldn't find the key, drove me nutz till I saw it still attached to the last bolt I torqued.

Dealer parts department was still open and it turns out there are only 7 unique keys, so lucked into immediate replacement. The key bolt concept is a security joke.

I bought a set for my first X5 in 2001, never installed them and still have them in a drawer in the garage, ill argue it helped because my wheels were never stolen on that one or the other 3 X5s I've owned....😉

The bolt thread is not stripped, the bolt itself seems fine. Like I said, it seems it is the loose cone washer/sleeve that seems to be embedded in the rim. I want dealer to deal with it because when they do hammer it out, they are likely to damage the multi-thousand $ rim, both cosmetically and functional damage to the hole (won't seat another bolt properly to the hub), so I suspect this will turn into a serious warranty issue - replacement of the rim. The rim is off the car now for the winter, so they only have one bolt to screw up.
