I think the new X5M will be primarily for those that want a big M car for lifestyle reasons and not for winter use. The way all the new M cars hangs multiple coolers 4” off the ground will kill any idea of a X5M being used in a rugged environment. Cinders or even a piece of road ice kicking up will kill it.

1) Oil cooler Mystro- you think X5M will have oil cooler under the bumper like M5? It will be tough for an SUV to have that uncovered. (will need custom cover fabricated) 2) Different diameter wheels - 22 back, 21 front - PIA to find tires for that. so the first mod will be to change to lightweight 20" wheels with Michelin PS4 tires. (there was an article where they did they to x3 M40 and dropped like 7-8 lb per wheel - huge performance gains in stopping distance and acceleration) 3) rough ride on super stiff competition suspension (similar to x3 competition that has complaints in every review about the ride quality) 20" wheels with soft tires will cure some of that but damping might be smth to live with for that type of cornering. 4) Trailer hitch - not available. Need to get custom Stealth hitch purchased, diffuser modified and installed by removing rear bumper - PIA. That x5 M50 - starting to look better and better |

My X5 M50i is at dealer getting prepped. Taking delivery tomorrow. $108,525 MSRP. Should be a beast! Did the largest wheels with summer performance tires. Might get winter set but I never have to drive with ice or snow on street. Work from home so all travel optional. Snow cleared within a day always

I absolutely LOVE the X5M.... who doesn't?
But... I also live in the country with the worst roads on the planet.... and I have neck & back issues too. But, I'm a car guy, and a horsepower junkie... and I I traded in my 340i M performance edition for an X5M50i.... with air suspension.... and went with 21s instead of 22s. I love the X5M.... but I know they have harsh suspensions, and here in Belgium, it would be unbearable. For me... when I saw the ability to get a big, comfy, smooth luxury SUV.... AND get the horsepower?? I was all over it. Even if the X5M wasn't out of my price range, I wouldn't get it. The X5M is the 100% solution for performance The X5M50i is the 100% solution for comfort, and the 90% solution for performance Just my opinion.... but I think the X5 M50i should be priced higher, because it offers better "all around, everyday" usage. |

Took delivery of my X5 M50i today. I absolutely love it. I was blown away by how it looked. I did Black Sapphire paint. Shadow trimp. 22 black wheels. Full coffee interior w/piano black trim. Car looks amazing in person.
First impressions are plenty of power. Handling is really nice with the upgraded suspension is phenomenal (I have all options on this vehicle except tow hook and rear seat entertainment). Loads of tech in this thing. I have to still get everything setup but I could not be happier with the power, drive, looks, tech, etc. Well beyond even my high expectations. I was still a little up in the air if I would need to upgrade to the X5M next year from the M50i but after driving it I am thinking this will probably be the one for me. The X5M is gonna have to really raise the bar way over this thing for it to be compelling to me. It's possible but I didn't get out of this car and think "if it only had....." about any part of it. |

The new X5M has ARS for the first time and one thing ARS allows for is much higher comfort while retaining equal or increased levels of body control. ARS is both a very comfortable thin roll bar and an extremely beefy performance roll bar in one. I strongly suspect that the car will be VERY comfortable in the comfort and standard damper settings. |
