Sale price v MSRP on 2019

I am going to grab my wife a x5 in December. X-line version (was going to do m sport but I have a x6m and really no need). The MSRP is 76670 and the dealer says 70,420 after rebates.

That is about 8% off.

As 2019s have already incurred a year's worth of depreciation does that seem reasonable? I might be better off focusing on a right priced 2020 where that is not the case.

We will keep the car 5 years so maybe the early depreciation isn't an issue as things will level out in the end. I.e. in 5 years the difference in a 2019/20 value should be negligible if miles driven stay a year lower than other 2019s.

Any thoughts. Thanks.

Try to get 8-10% off before incentives

Thanks.

Can you define incentives? Do you mean BMW sponsored programs? I think they have one out there for $3850 or thereabouts. That all gets a bit murky.

I rarely buy new cars, usually CPO.

Opinions on bottom line % off MSRP for a 2019 is appreciated. How they get there is going to be up to the dealership.

Thanks again!

Hi, I’m about to sign a deal on a 2020 X5 m sport with 8.3% discount off MSRP, which includes rebate. It’s a special order with individual paint. You should be able to beat my deal since you are working a 2019 X5.

our 2019 order from last april got about 13% off msrp (after all dealership incentives and rebates). not sure if it makes a big difference, but we are in AZ.

Im pretty sure you can get way more than 8% for it being a year old.

A good practice is to separate dealer discount and incentives (incentives being things like loyalty, lease/finance cash, etc). The dealer discount is heavily influenced by 2 things - Your local market and your negotiating leverage.

To get extra leverage in negotiations, get multiple dealers involved to bid for your business. As for market based dealer discounts, if you find that dealers in your local market aren't very aggressive, consider going outside of your immediate market to dealers a bit further away.

If you're looking at a 2019, you should be able to do much better than 8% off BEFORE factoring in any incentives.

What should the discount be on a 2020 X5 40I. I am sure they do not want to deal too much since they have to get rid of 2019
I reviewed Maheim auction site and 2019 are not selling well at auction price wise.

As reference, I received 9.2% off before incentives on a 2020 X5 40i custom order, before the 2020's hit the lots back in August. This was in the Chicagoland area.

I want to get a 2020 X5 but there's only one BMW dealer here. This would be our second x5 from them and the year is ending so I'm hoping for 10% off or so. We went to go see our SA back in the spring and at that point, he basically told us there were no deals to be had since there was such huge demand for the 2019 X5. The F15 we bought from them was off the lot and we were very happy with the price we got on it, but the tenor of the conversation this time didn't go as well. I frankly didn't even know you could get a deal on a BMW till I came to this forum and saw people talking about negotiating 10-12% off. So, if they don't offer a good deal, what are my options? I have my custom build code and I want a PCD, so I really don't need to 'be' at the dealer if not required.

If I were to engage a dealer outside my market, I'd have to first go meet with them right? Are there dealers who can do the entire transaction without a personal meeting?

I did 95% of my communication/negotiation by email/phone. I only went into the dealership once the numbers were agreed upon and I was ready to take delivery of the car. If you're doing PCD, some dealers may not even require you to ever step foot into the dealership and you can do everything remotely.

I would suggest emailing a few different dealerships outside of your market with your build code, let them know exactly what you're looking for whether financing or leasing (i.e. if leasing, xx miles/year, xx years, xx money down, any security deposits, credit score etc). I personally did not give them a price initially, I just asked them to provide me with their best quote, and expressed that I was ready to sign as soon as I received an agreeable number.

I'm hoping it doesn't come to that especially since we're happy to support the local dealership but thank you for explaining how this process works.

You can still support the local dealership, but shop around for leverage. That's what I did. I always gave my local deal "last look". They started with 3k off then went all the way to 9k after I told them other dealers were giving me close to 10% off M50i custom orders. At that point, they were much more willing to work the numbers. They matched my best offer and I went with them.

Agreed with above... it's all about gaining leverage even if your intent is to purchase from a particular dealer. Sometimes you just have to give them a kick in the pants incentive to come down to an agreeable price.

we custom ordered a x5 40i Msport pretty loaded (80k) and got about 11% but it did include incentives and usaa 2k off.
Will plan to add BCCA 1K rebate as well.
I did email surrounding dealers to help negotiate fwiw.

I probably should have started this thread in the pricing folder. My bad. Not sure how to move it.

okay that sounds good then. Since we're building and doing a PCD hopefully, there's no rush to get it by a certain date, that gives me time to ask for dealer quotes. Boy am I glad for this forum! I would have been quite upset to have paid MSRP and then realize I could have gotten a better deal like you would on an altima

Edit: 2 more questions: 1. how do I get the BMWCCA discount? is there an annual fee to join that club or something? 2. The USAA discount is only available with people with some connection to the armed forces, not civilians right?

You have to register on the BMWCCA website. Make sure to register for the 3 year membership as that ensures you're immediately eligible for the rebate.

Then once you've taken delivery of the car, you can fill out the rebate form directly on BMW CCA's website and submit it. After several weeks they should send you a $1,000 check in the mail.
