Looks like the X5 came in 3rd place behind the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne

To put it in perspective, the X5M/X6M came in 9th/10th place respectively. The Tesla Model X came in 15th. It's a long list. Last place (25th) is the Lexus GX.

Seems like they use the term "crossover" pretty loosely. The GX is a full body on frame SUV, not sure it qualifies as a crossover. Also the Lamborghini doesn't seem like it fits... where's the Bentley Bentayga?

That can't be accurate. They literally did a comparison test a month or two ago and the Cayenne came in 1st with the X5 shortly behind. Q7 finished 3rd and GLE 4th.

It was a very accurate test too. Cayenne got dinged for its ho-hum interior. X5 got dinged for its boring steering, but otherwise its excellent.

I remember that comparison. C&D isn't really known for their consistency.

I agree that the GX (which my mom has had two of, current one being the first year of current model from 2011) is super old and probably deserves last place, but have you seen the sales numbers of those?! They are selling stronger than they did when this generation first debuted. A friend who lives in a semi-suburban neighborhood said the GX is the SUV of choice for all the moms there and she now really wants one.

It's cheaper than the Germans, with bullet-proof reliability, and has that Lexus softness to it. The seats are cushy, the ride is plush, the transmission is butter smooth. Barring a few exceptions, Lexus is the automobile of choice for people who don't like to be reminded that they're driving. I say this having owned a couple Lexus's in the past

No vehicle is perfect including the X5. Yes I've owned 13 BMWs but I'm no Fanboy. When my lease is up I'll be Cross shopping a lot of other vehicles.

You’re right...I’ve only ever owned Fords, and decided to give BMW a go. It’s just tough since I get overly pumped about car shopping. I slightly considered those 30 day lease programs until I realized the price point to get into the higher level vehicles.

Plus, unlike Ford and GM, I know BMW won’t be killing off their sedans only to bring the, back (ahem...Ford Ranger...)
