22" or 20" or both?
Greetings!
I'm about to pull the trigger on a custom-built 2025 G05, and I'm torn between getting the 20" (740M) M sport wheels/tires, or the black 22" (742M, or order with the 22" and the 20" separately from the dealer. I live in NC, so we don't get much snow but it will get below freezing a few times per winter. Also, is the ride on the 22" noticeably harsher/firmer (no air suspension)? How much are the 20" rims and tires from the dealer? |

I have both the 20" 740M and the 22" 742M rims for our G05 X5. The 22"s are noticeably firmer riding than the 20"s as expected. It really depends on what you are used to. I have an E63s AMG which has a much firmer ride so the 22"s on the X5 feel about right for me. Not overly firm, but more sporty feeling than the 20"s. I'm probably going to sell the 20"s later this summer and put all seasons on the 22"s as winter in Chicago won't fly with summer tires. Hope that helps.

I’m definitely getting all season 22”s when these summer tires are worn out, have you considered getting all season 22”s with taller tires? Like 35’s in the rear and 40’s in the front?

I have not. I'm not comfortable shying away from stock configurations of tire ratios with all the transfer case talk on these forums.

Yes as you said, I would try to keep the 22" away from salt and snow roads. Buy a second 20" set of wheels and tires. |
