our winter setup
I got these a couple days ago from the local dealership. Where we live the difference between Tirerack and the dealership is negligible given the shipping costs. I'll just put them on myself in a couple weeks. Put the staggered 21's away for the winter. Never had Pirelli winter tires before always gone with Blizzaks. See how this works out.

The replicas I'm getting are from local tire shop in Mississauga. They are 20" gloss black replicas in a staggered setup. The only 22" Replicas that I've seen where on eBay.

So I have gone with a staggered setup 275/45/20 & 305/40/20 - Michelin Pilot Alpine 5 SUV. I wanted that staggered look without the use of spacers.
One thing I did come to learn is if I had gone with the 275's square star rated they would be covered under the BMW Tire and Rim Protection. A buddy of mine pointed this out. I was under the impression the tires would have to be bought at the BMW dealership. Anyway, I thought I'd point that out as you are thinking of a winter setup. Appointment is booked for October 28th. I'll post some pics to give you a perspective on a staggered look in 20". These are the rims I've gone with.

How would this be covered? Like you - I've been told they have to be BMW OEM wheels to be covered .....

I went with R233 in gunmetal. 20x9 square with 275/45R20 Pirelli Scorpion Winters (non run flat). Wheels sit fine, not tucked in much. Used OE BMW center caps and little square M stickers. All looks OEM which I like a lot. Not sure if I can post a picture here though, as there is a tire and wheel company sign on the background..

I have the staggered 20” for my current F15 40d due to be replaced Friday November 1st by a G05 40i. I have really appreciated the looks as the car looks as good winter or summer, however the winter performance is not very good. For G05 no staggered winter wheels are available from BMW, which hampers the look of the car in terms of stance and presence, on the upside real winter tyres are now available, both NOKIAN Hakkapelita with studs and NOKIAN R3 SUV Nordic are available in 20” for G05 with both 740M and 748M rims but in winter config the come square 275/40 whereas the 740M comes with 9x20 front with 275/40 and 9x10,5 305/35 as original for the M-sport package. I originally ordered the 748M with NOKIAN R3 when ordering the car back in May, however now also the 740M being available I changed last week to the 740M.

Here are a couple pics. I also have the Air Suspension set to the 2nd lowest setting which is how I normally drive it. Again 275's up front and 305's in rear.

Just got some M stickers for the rims and put on the OEM M caps for the valve stems. This really completes the look for my 20" staggered setup. I'm very happy with the ride thus far. A bit of snow in the forecast. We'll see how it goes.
Question regarding tire pressure. What should the tire pressure be set for 275/45R20 and 305/40R20?

First post - just my opinion, hope it helps someone's decision-making.
I did a lot of research for a winter tire/wheel package for my 2014 X5 5.0 which I bought with really crappy Antares all-seasons a couple years ago. This summer, I had a flat, and took advantage of my last crack at the tire/wheel package before it expired to get 4 new Pirelli P-Zero run-flats at the dealership for a bargain $1100 installed. Staggered 275/40 & 315/35 R20s. They drive really nice. This did come with an additional price - knowing that I needed a dedicated winter package. 1. I went first to the dealer and asked for a winter package recommendation. He recommended 19" straight, and confirmed they'd fit because I did not have the M-Sport brake package, but quoted me over $3300 for the wheel/tire package, the cheeky bastard. 2. I spent two weeks building packages on TireRack, surfing the web, and asking people. Decided that 19" was better than 20" because winter, potholes, and price. 3. The next decision was staggered v flat, and I went with the straight 19" because price, availability, and rotation. It didn't make sense to overspend on a custom setup for 3 months out of the year. Having to support 2 sizes for winter in case of flats and tread-wear seemed sub-optimal. And all the Massholes around me swore by smaller tires for winter. "You don't want to push snow around, you want to drive through it". 4. I ended up settling on the Pirelli Scorpion Winter Run-Flats, 255/50R-19 from TireRack at $250 each, with (admittedly) not the prettiest of $220 rims, but the total price tag of $2000 means I can invest somewhere other than a 3-month snowy slushy season. They're available if I need replacements, they're run-flats so they'll get me home in a pinch, and I can rotate them year-on-year. Just my two cents. Excited to be on this forum. Now does anyone have a recommendation on a car jack |
