Receiver Bike Rack for Two

Hi All,

I been hunting for a bike rack for the back of our SAV's. Been around to bike shops and the internet. This has caused me to get a bit confused and overwhelmed. I typically used my truck with a bed mount so moving to the hitch style the number one complaint I hear is rattle, shacking, and bouncing.....

I've heard and read promises from companies that theirs don't do this and read reviews that state a 50/50 mix!!!! Prices are crazy and range from 200 to 1000.... so before I pull the trigger I'm asking the community here what they have and what they would recommend. Please provide name and model or a simple link...
Thanks Ahead of time!

FYI: bikes are Trek Mountain style and a couple others with big wheels. We only take two at a time.

Kuat NV 2.0. If you tighten the receiver properly, no rattles. Very solid. Multiple color options.

I'm in the same boat, so piggybacking to this thread. Trying to decide between Kuat nv 2 and Thule T2 Pro XT 2.

The reviews on Amazon are more favorable for Kuat, however, based on the demo video for both racks, Thule seems to be a bit more user-friendly. Easier to tilt up/down, better placement of secure cable, easier to lock & tight the rack in the receiver...

Folks, any options between these two?

To echo what JFU said, providing you tighten the anti-rattle part properly then both of these racks are stellar.

I have an older model Thule T2 and it works well. It's pretty heavy though, but that seems to be true for almost all racks of this type.

IMHO the Kuat NV2 looks way cooler in the Orange / Grey than the Thule rack. 1Up are another option I see a lot of, their new one seems to have some good improvements too and from what I recall may cost a little less than the others.

Thanks for the input. I do like both, I think I will call around see if anyone has them in stock for me to get my hands on with. If not I will actually flip a coin and Amazon order one!!!

We use a Yakima Hold Up and are very pleased with it. We actually got a Thule and returned it because it was far too heavy for what it was and stuck out farther than we felt it should've with bikes loaded. The Yakima is a few pounds lighter (but still hefty) and will allow the car and bikes to fit in a parking space without protruding into the travel lane. The Yakima is also less expensive than some Kuats. Would highly recommend.

Edit: Btw no rattling from the Yakima.

@tenac - AMZN runs promo now, which applies to Thule but not to Kuat:

"Get 15% back on amount charged to an Amazon Prime credit card"

Anyone tried using Thule/Yakima racks on top of the G05 BMW base rails?

Thule TO pro XT expanded to 4. It is great. I do like it better at 2 bikes. When the kids are out of the house I will shrink it back to 2.

No, I have an aversion to loading muddy mountain bikes up on the roof of any car. Don’t like cleaning bugs off my bikes either. I have used roof racks years ago but no longer. I’m sure those racks work just fine as long as you remember not to pull into a parking garage or your own garage.

If you have a receive hitch check out the One Up USA racks, totally bomber. I have had a few Kuat, Thule and Yakima hitch mounted racks too. Love the OneUp it hauls them all even my 5” wide studded tires on the fatty.

Just get the 1Up with an add on rack and be done. You won’t look back. Kuat and Thule are nice, but heavy and big. The 1Up is light and simple, easy to store and looks good too. I have the heavy duty with 2 add ons. I usually have just one bike, but sometimes my daughter comes with me and the odd time my wife.

We use the Küat Sherpa 2.0 and have no issues with rattle when the hitch cam is tightened by hand. It's also light enough for my wife to install and remove without assistance.

Get the Kuat NV Base 2.0. It is cheaper (it doesn't include the bike stand), looks better (Matt black paint) and is also expandable in future with the add on if you so desire.

Good luck finding any decent rack in stock though thanks to covid!
