"Hey BMW" has become stupid

For the first month of ownership I was extremely impressed with how well the voice control worked and understood my commands. I could say "take me to Starbucks" and it would pull up navigation to the nearest Starbucks. I could give it commands to "set climate control to 75°" and it would do it every-time".

Over the past week it has lost ability to understand my commands. It seems slower, and when I ask it to "take me" somewhere it doesn't understand or suggests a location in a different state.

Has anyone else's BMW become stupid? Does anyone have an explanation?

Reset your iDrive and see if it clears up.

Yesterday I gave it a command and the whole iDrive crashed and rebooted itself. That's the first time I've ever seen the whole thing reboot itself.

I just said "synchronize the AC" which I feel like has worked before, but I guess it didn't like it yesterday. The little voice icon stayed on the screen for a long time. I pressed home and the voice icon stayed at the top of the home screen, and then the whole thing just went black and restarted.

Our's keeps saying it is unavailable. It worked for the first couple days, now it's gone...

Any chance you didn't have cell access? I've had iDrive not recognize commands on a few trips. I've attributed it to not having great cell access but I could be wrong. So many other bugs in idrive, so who knows.

it has to do with cell signal, at least I've noticed it sucks when signal is poor. BMW uses AT&T so don't expect it to be good

Check your cell signal bars on top right hand corner of the centre screen. It seems like the Voice Control is relying on a cloud database rather than a local database.
