I have also read that about the transmission. Agreed -it’s an amazing car. It’s plenty fast as is. I’ll likely keep it stock and pick up the 911 I was oringally shopping for in the next year.

First let’s get lear, the X5M and X50 have both a twin turbo V8. Yes TURBO. Second in the latest gen, the X5M60 literally has the same engine.

Moving on. In my area every other car is some sort of Porsche SUV, with 80% of them driven by soccer moms and 90% of Maccan driven by soccer mom/dad/grandparents. I would say 1 out of 5 has a dog inside while driving.
I would not want to buy any of them.

I have a 7 years old M3 and X5M. Both have seen kids (no dogs) and the M3 looks better than when new. The X5 was used (22K miles) but thanks to paint correction, steam cleaning inside looks better than when I bought it. So please let’s not assume things. I have seen plenty X5 looking much cleaner than Cayennes. AGAIN IT DEPENDS ON THE AREA YOU LIVE too. As I said here I see Ferraris, Lambos, Urus (my neighbor), Benteyagas etc. A Cayenne is your civic pretty much. Dog/Kids hauler.

Now if you want to talk about the actual car, then yes I don’t think anyone disagrees that the Porsche has a much more racing heritage and always aims to make the Cayenne a bit more driver oriented. I am sure Porsche execs test drive X5 and vice versa.

Would I like a Cayenne GTS or Turbo, sure as long as I have some other fun toy. But as many said value for price X5 for me, and hopefully a 911 on the side.
It’s nice to know my 2021 Cayenne GTS is pretty much just the “civics” of SUVs… well at least in your neighborhood I guess. What color is your Lambo?

Lol, yeah my imaginary lambo is going to be a nice orange or yellow. My neighbor is wrapped matte black. As far as cayennes mostly base and a few S. There is a couple moms at my kids school rocking GTS, I think one has a dog sometimes.

I gotta agree that the base Cayenne is pretty common in some areas though. Here in NYC you see quite a few that look like they've never been cleaned or maintained. Clearly owned by people who dont care about cars at all and bought it just for the Porsche badge.

The GTS, hybrid, and turbo trims are definitely more rare.

My personal perception thanks to what I see around NYC is definitely part of the reason I didnt initially consider a Cayenne. Will be visiting the dealership tomorrow though, and they have a Cayenne Coupe GTS on the lot (but its missing some features I'd want like surround view, HUD and PDCC).

Agreed the base model Cayennes are everywhere and are not that special.

X5 for sure.
Can’t find out the safety scores of most Porsches; that’s a deal killer for my family.

Sweet. Funny how that happens. I went to the dealer to buy a 911 but my wife talked me into the Cayenne GTS…

Spec?

Hahaha, my girlfriend talked me into the Panamera. She actually preferred the X6M if I had to get a coupe SUV, but liked the Panamera much more. Mostly based on looks and the feel though, not performance and handling.

TBH I actually didn't test drive at all since we hadn't planned on it, the sales guy only had 45 minutes free so I assumed we'd just sit in a few cars and at least get a feel for interior, the features, etc. Sat in the Cayenne GTS and gave it a few revs, the exhaust sounded beautiful.

I probably should've remembered to push for an actual test drive once I started ordering the dang thing.. but I was too excited lol.

I recreated my order in the online configurator: https://configurator.porsche.com/porsche-code/PPL633G4

thanks! both good choices anyway. I saw a used Sport Turismo e-Hybrid on the lot too, Porsche did a really good job keeping the sporty look on that body style.

Congrats and nice spec. But here lies my issue, not sure that I could stomatch almost 180K for that car. But I am sure once you take ownership and start driving it that won’t matter anymore hopefully. Enjoy!

I have ventilated and massaging seats on my M550. Honestly, I would not bother specking that on a future car.

I use the ventilated seats from time to time. They really don’t provide a ton of cooling effect unless it’s crazy hot and massaging seats are nice but sometimes feels like a gimmick. It’s nice to have but completely unnecessary.

Having our driven the Cayenne GTS, I am completely sold on prioritizing, driving dynamics, and all the tech features are secondary. Ventilated seats, rear heated seats, adaptive cruise control. All that stuff is nice but it’s not as important as having a car that drives amazing.

Porsche cost so much that people compromise on some of the technology. Hence is why you see $150k cars NOT spec’s with rear heated seats or heated steering wheels.

Yea you’re missing my point. Very simply, you got a 175k car - i don’t get the logic of not throwing in a few more features that cost <.5%. Your point makes sense if porsche did not have these features and you were still choosing porsche and I’d totally agree with you driving dynamics first.

But in this case you don’t have to make any sacrifices, so why skimp on the vented seats they add some value to anyone..

Ventilated seats are just that, ventilation, not cooling. Expecting them to cool your body is misguided. They help you arrive dry versus damp.

Agreed, but still a nice feature to have. Not sure if porsche cools or just vents as well..

My first post was meant more to be a joke. Like come on 175k and no seat ventilation, you better check that box….

My personal opinion and to each their own... if I had 175k being spent on a car, I’d be checking all those boxes to create the ultimate performance AND luxury car.

Its gonna be tough, but the looming massive bill helps with the wait i guess lol. In a rush for the car, but not in a rush to yank all that money out of my savings account that currently has 4.2% interest.

Yea this adventure has been a constant case of scope/budget creep for me. Started with 100k max for GLC 63S, no V8 so increased budget and moved to GLE 63S, order screwed so went to X6M with the 2024 price hikes, and now here I am lol.

I've kept my current BRZ for 8 years and only put 32k miles on it though, so I expect the Panamera to be very much worth it for my driving habits.

I actually texted my sales guy yesterday asking him to add it lol. I still really dont think I need it, but I remembered that the Porsche center consoles just have a useless ghost button for any feature that wasnt purchased.

Its a 170k car but if I added every little option based on the logic of the option cost being a tiny fraction of total cost, the total cost will go flying even more. Its how Porsche gets you.. death by a million options.

Exactly. Very few cars are spec’d to the max - if you soec too much it makes more sense to move up to the next trim. My GTS with too many options creeps into Cayenne Turbo money and hence people then upgrade. I’m sure there are turbos with every option and they are probably way over 170!

170 is a lot for a car but it’s all relative. I remember years ago buying our 2007 MDX for $46k - thinking we were spending a fortune. I’m sure you could now spend that much on an accord if you checked all the boxes….

Life is short and if cars are your thing and you have the funds go for it. YOLO.

I knew a guy who was really into cars in his mid-40s he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He bought a really nice Porsche 911 to enjoy in his final years of life. He told
Me you never know how much time you have left so “get your living done today”.

I think about him often - you can’t live for today *at the expense of tomorrow* , but there’s no point saving everything for a rainy day that may never come…

Enjoy that Panamera Panda!

I suppose different strokes for different folks. The definition of what one can afford has changed over the years, as has our priorities. The data clearly shows that people are buying more luxuries and one reason prices are rising. I bet an Accord of today has more luxury options than an MDX of 2007! They are after all built on the same platform - AFAIK.

Personally, I would treat a stripped down Cayenne GTS vs fully loaded X5 M50i as a trade off between more driving dynamics vs luxury instead of trying to max out the GTS for max luxury and max driving dynamics if it meant blowing my budget just because I could finance it (today’s definition of affordability I suppose)…I am in the optimizing for value boat. Probably why I would pick the M50i over a Cayenne GTS.

My 2 cents worth…

Yea you must first figure out what you can afford then optimize your personal perception of value under that number…. No one is saying otherwise. This is not a slippery slope where I’m suggesting that someone who has a budget for an m50 ends up with a brand new fully loaded gts.. I think a used GTS is more in the same budget as a new m50. I believe new gts is 120k.

But I do think anyone who is saying I’ve got 175k for a car should have a few extra thousand laying around to not omit sensible value add options.
