2019 X5 -- Instrument Cluster Dead

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
My wife got in our X5 today and found that the instrument cluster appears dead. The HUD is showing the speed and the iDrive screen is fine. Rebooting iDrive did not fix it; remains to be seen if a full power down after sitting makes a difference.

I have a service appointment tomorrow for a camera issue, so I guess the timing is fortuitous.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks.

I've had the center display (instrument cluster Nav, B/C settings) disappear, and rebooting didn't correct. Turned car off, wait, back on and problem resolved; hasn't recurred. 2020 40i, formerly v7/2019.53 iDrive 7.

Well, Paladin, the same has happened to me. I let the car sit for an hour or so and the cluster was back. Strange.

I attribute to the usual BMW imported German gremlins - happened on a previous F15 as well, same correction. Now on v11/2020.70, so hopefully the software is more stable. Guarded optimism (the update did fix a camera alignment problem on mine).....

I have the camera alignment issue too; I've had a number of updates, up to the most recent as of 2 weeks ago, and it has not fixed it. It is going in tomorrow for a new camera.

iDrive 6 is much more stable in my experience (I also have a 2018 540). My 2021 M550 is in production now and the one thing I have qualms about is iDrive 7.

I had an issue with my G30 dash going blank, it related to a 3rd party carplay activation via USB stick that I did. It was intermittent and took a battery disconnect to reset it. So basically was a software glitch causing the system to lock up and not launch the dash component.
In the end BMW had to replace pretty much every component of the dash module/controller , stating that one of the controllers wouldn’t even recode/program, needless to say I purchased carplay from the BMW store and stopped fiddling. They had the car 2 times to correct the fault, no idea how much it cost as it was done under warranty, I obviously mentioned nothing about the USB carplay activation. Nothing to see here, move along

2019 X5 here as well. Just had this exact same experience this past weekend. Dash blank, HUD and iDrive working. iDrive reboot did not fix and then magically 4 hours later the dash was working again after the car had sat.

We were recently upgraded to 07/2020.XX (I don't remember without looking) and wonder if it is related.

Two prior posts on this issue, this seems to be an intermittent problem without a resolution. Shutting the car off and restarting after a period of time seems to resolve. It's happened twice in 21K of mileage; my X5 is a November 18 build. Glad I have a HUD. I reported it on my last service visit, no error codes were found.

Service manager asked me to take a video of the problem when it happens again. Please post if you have a different result in determining a cause or finding a solution.

UPDATE: Took the vehicle in today. There was an error code indicating Kombi failure. They ordered a new cluster.

I hope they have these parts in stock in NJ for you...mine failed last year a few months after I got it (Nov 18 build) and it took 6 weeks to get the part from Germany. Car has been flawless since so I wouldn't worry about it after...just took a while to get the part.

Good luck.
