Recall on 2020 X5 front axle?

Did anyone else get a call today from BMW regarding a recall on their X5 front axle? Both BMW and my dealership called me within ten minutes of each other. They said I should not drive my car anymore as it wasn't safe! Not even drive it home from work which is where I was when they called. They offered to tow it to the dealer. They also said there were no parts currently and that it would be about 30 DAYS or more until they could possibly fix it when they got more parts! BMW said my dealer would get me a loaner but couldn't get one for me until Monday. When I got the call from my dealer they initially said they would not be able to give me a loner as they were not going to be "actively" working on my car (due to no parts) so I'd have to call BMW regarding a rental car etc. I put in a call to my dealer General Manager and got that nonsense taken care of quickly (picking up a loaner tomorrow morning). What was odd is that when I called my dealership General Manager he had NO IDEA what I was talking about. He had to call me back after talking to his service department manager. I guess it just happened apparently. Very odd the General Manager and my usual service adviser had zero knowledge of the recall. Mind you, someone from the dealership called me. My car is only three months OLD! So odd! So anyone else get a call?

These are the affected Cars and build dates.
Its the front Axle support. Something with poor welding and it could fail.

WOW, sounds serious. They forgot to put a bolt or something? I wonder if this is specific to your vehicle only?

I received an email and call yesterday as well stating the same thing. Gal at BMW said she would have the dealer contact me and they never did. I called the dealer and they had no idea what I was talking about.

They weren't too sure about a loaner but I will press when I talk to them next and if my car is out of commission for a month. Should there be a concession?

Car was delivered in mid-July. X5 m50i

I just checked for recalls on my M50i and as far as Canadian vehicles are concerned as of today, there are no recalls. Sometimes, we are updated later than the neighbours on the south side of the border.

UPDATE! Here is the info on the recall I got from my dealer. It only affects a small amount of people from May to June 2020 builds F95,F96,G05,G06,G07. They really have no more info at this time besides DONT DRIVE THE CAR! Its the front Axle support. Something with bad welding and it could fail.

Seems the 2020/2021 cars are plagued with issues, I feel for the guys with these cars. I wonder what's going on and whether this dip in quality control is due to this bloody Corona virus???

Sure glad I picked up a March 2019 model before anyone ever heard of it...

This is worrying. On the driver's door says built Jun 20 but not exact day. However on the official ownership papers says date of manufacture 13th July 2020. This is confusing. Is there a way throught VIN to find out exact date. I didn't get a call from the dealer but I will call them tomorrow.

Thanks biterror. I've checked and unfortunately it was built 3rd of June. I don't know if I have to keep driving the car or not. And I cant believe I have been driving the car for 3 months with this kind of problem (front axle support). Maybe this could result in a serious accident. I will call them tomorrow and hopefully they will know about it. If not it will be very frustrating.

Did you enter your VIN on the UK BMW website for recalls? I think a many on this forum did this for the battery recall for the 45e. It seems to be show international recalls and not cars is the UK.

Maybe worth giving it a try

I tried the uk site as you recommended and i got the following response "There are no open safety related recalls or technical enhancements on this vehicle." I dont know if this applies for Europe though (The car is in Cyprus-right hand drive as the UK). However isn't all BMW X5s manufactured in Spartanburg BMW plant in US?

Yes. A small numbers assembled from CKD in Thailand, only for local markets

The battery recall for the 45e showed for other countries too. And the UK cars are build in Spartanburg just like the other European x5's.

The fact that it doesn't show now doesn't mean there is a problem of course.

Lets just hope there is no problem with your car I would hope that if the problem is so important that driving is too dangerous that BMW would take the affected cars off the road ASAP.
