International Warranty

I understand that BMW, unlike some other german brands, provide international (i.e. worldwide) warranty for a minimum period of two years (and the dealerships in each country tend to top this up with an additional 2-3 years).

Does anyone have access to the official international warranty documentation (terms & conditions and other official documentation) pertaining to this warranty.

The same question also applies to the service - how to enforce / make sure that service is provided internationally if/when the car is in a different country/region.

Thanks!

My suggestion here is call the dealers from where you bought it from and where you are going to better understand how that will work.

Not sure where you are from but I once had a Ford truck break down in Canada and warranty had zero issues covering this... Work was all done in Canada even when truck was from Iowa. This might not even compare to what you are seeking but thought I'd share.

Thanks for that.

At this point, because I did not buy the car yet, all I am looking for is official documentation from BMW Group.

The specs of the international warranty differ from country to country. And typically, "international" means "multinational" (i.e. valid in a defined list of countries) rather than "global" (i.e. valid everywhere on this planet).

So if you ask any dealer in your country, the specs they give you should apply to all dealers in your country (with the exception of diplomatic/military sales).

thanks but that's not what I understood... BMW Group doest refer to international warranty and I have not seen a place where they mention the actual list of countries where this is applicable.

The country I am in confirmed that their warranty/service would be applicable in other countries and BMW Dealers in other countries are obligated to provide such service contractually... but I could not get hold of the documentation.

My question is now on the import side: I'd like to make sure that a new US/Canadian BMW is under international warranty and service.

Can anyone redirect me to any documentation about that?

Could you be more specific? Which country will you be buying from? Standard purchase or military/diplomatic? Are you talking about the standard BMW warranty or a special warranty offered by the dealer?

I'm interested in buying a BMW from North America (US/Canada) and export to the Middle East and/or Europe, depending on where I'll be located/moving to - hence why my questions are relatively broad.

This would be through the normal process - i.e. non military/diplomatic.

So, would it be US or Canada? Believe it or not, but different countries do have different warranty specs.

As a purchase, yes. As a location for the warranty and service, no.

My question will be: will the warranty / service be valid and if yes, what are the conditions / is there documentation about that?

Most likely no, depends on the exact country of purchase, and yes.

Let me repeat the following a fourth and final time before checking out of this thread:

The existence and extent of an "international" warranty depend on the country you buy the car from.

Hence, check the BMW website of the respective country and/or contact a BMW dealership in the respective country for details.

To close the loop on that if ever someone is changing regions and wondering about Warranty and Service.

Warranty of new BMW cars in global. You just have to register it at a local dealership of the new region, alongside the change in the service interval (I moved from 15k to 12k in the new region).

The Service package is also global and I was able to get it activated. I only get the traditional Service package and was offered by the dealership to subscribe to the Service Package *plus* that includes brake disks, brake pads and wipers. I opted out for now.

I hope this helps others but very pleased to know that it's indeed global :-)
