LCI and coding
A little preface... I tried searching but the search words used brought up a zillion responses and I went through many pages before I gave up.
What is the story on coding LCI vehicles? Is this DOA, a matter of time, or something else? Seems like nothing stays locked too long; too many smart people out there, but maybe this case is different? Where would I go to track this effort if it is being made? TIA |

Coding on LCI is NOT possible. Not through any known tool at the moment.

The problem is the files are no longer distributed but kept on BMW's servers so server authentication is needed for coding. So far no one has found a way around that.

So if we pull the files they'll be encrypted and no one has cracked that yet. Meanwhile the official tools are not distributed but accessed by dealerships from BMWs servers. Is that about right?

I have not heard of anyone being able to get the files but I would imagine if they ever leak out they would be encrypted and useless after a short period of time given the frequency of updates. Yes, the dealership tools do not have the files and access the servers.

Thanks. I was going back and forth between an M8 and an M5 and I think I might have gone with the 8 if I had realized this, always expected I'd be able to turn off start/stop and enable my lights.
Poor due diligence on my part. |

Bimmertech got back with me; they are working on it but have nothing going on with it at the moment. If anyone else checks in, I'll post.
