I ordered it in the parts dept. I gave them the part number and they reached out to BMW on how to order. Came in a few days. Works great.

I bought it from my selling dealer so my CA pulled the bill of sale for me. If that's not possible you'll need to bring your sales documents and ID with you to prove you own the vehicle. That all gets sent to BMW and they program the card and send it to the dealer. Then it's the simple pairing process in the owners manual.

Was it free?
My dealer went through the walk through and told me it was a "dummy" card which was sitting in the car...
I went to activate it when I got home.. works!

I had to pay $49 + tax bc it didn't originally come with one (Nov build).

I did similar to mnewman but ran into a snag where BMW were unable to code the cards to my VIN and they are sorting out. Was told I should have by end of week. Endless snags with the technology side of these vehicles...

I ordered and received one card from a dealer parts store yesterday, but the BMW genius there didn't know how to activate the card, then I went to another dearler where the genius was able to activate it in 2 minutes.

The card works fine, but it doesn't work when I put it in my wallet or iphone case, and I also hate to take the card out every time to touch the door to open/close it .

So I just put the card in my wallet as a back up key.

The dealer charged me $59 plus tax

I just got back from picking up the key card my sales guy ordered for me. I was his first X5 delivery and neither of was sure if mine was supposed to come with it or not. Since I have CA, he just went ahead and put the order for me in, I was prepared to pay but he said "it's all taken care of".

Took 3 seconds to activate it, just like everybody says

Just place in wireless charging tray and start the car to program correct? Can the key fob be in/or near the vehicle when you are programming the card?

Yes, you need your key fob to start the vehicle before you program the key card. I left mine in my pocket the entire time. Put your card on the wireless charger then you just go into car settings > doors and add it. Seriously, under a minute taking your time.

By by "tip", you mean giving him a well deserved really great review on Dealerratordotcom? Then yes.

If you mean money or gifts then no, he's made enough money from me selling cars to me over the years

So I have a question for ya'll. Finally got my card and had it activated inside my car. It shows that it's active. But when I try to open or close the doors or start the engine. Card does nothing. Am I missing something here ? Thank you.

My buddy has this same problem. I'm wondering if it is connected to his other issue though. He hasn't had time to make sure that his Connected Drive login was the primary subscriber to his car yet. The hypothesis is that it might be related. Curious to see what you find as the solution.
