Adaptive mode the most confortable
My G05 has the M-sport package, which includes the Adaptive M sport suspension (2VF) (no Air suspension), and I've been doing some experimenting between the Driving Modes to find out which one gives the best all round performance and comfort.
I've landed on Adaptive driving mode, it really puts the car in the "Goldilocks" driver zone. It provides a soft ride on harsh and rough roads, the transmission adapts nicely between soft/gentle driving and spirited driving, and the engine matches nicely to the transmission behavior. On a related note, does anyone know if dealers can change the default driving mode at startup to Adaptive driving mode? |

You can use coding to change the default driving mode but it is unlikely your dealer would do it for you. If you don't want to tackle it yourself there may be someone you can pay to do it.

That's my favorite mode too. I use it when I remember to press the button. Comfort is so good I usually don't remember to press Adaptive mode. What a problem to have! Conversely, in my 3er before I got Dinan Shockware, Comfort mode was so bad (soft, floaty, horrible in every way) I never needed to be reminded to change modes. The G05 is great in every modes. Love it! |

My favorite mode also but with 2VR 2-axle air suspension. As part of my preflight takeoff, I'll turn off auto start/stop, hit Adaptive, then I'll either let the air suspension adjust from Load to Normal level or hit the toggle down once for Sport level.

Downshifting out of a corner (round on-ramp for a highway), anticipates hills, several other things I'm told. Downshifting is the most obvious.

It reads the type of road ahead (ie..bendy, straight, long straight) and sets the dampening in anticipation to give you the best ride.
For instance, if you have a tight U-bend ahead, it sets the dampening to "Sport" mode, so minimizes body roll. I thought the G05 did that regardless of whether you're using Navigation (GPS) or not? ..is this not the case? We have some crap (uneven/ rough) roads here in the north-east/east of Melbourne, and I absolutely notice the difference btw Comfort and Adaptive, mainly in softness and ability to absorb (soak up) those bumps. That's without Navigation turned on. |

I'm very glad to know 'adaptive' still exists with 2VR. My SA said it didn't. How's this adaptive mode different than the one on the X7 that says 'adaptive suspension with road preview' or are they one in the same?

I stand corrected, my mistake, its 2VF = Adaptive M Suspension, and is part of the overall M-sport package, which also includes the M sport brakes (2NH).

Very good. I only use the onboard GPS. It was flawless on our last 2200 mile family road trip. I put it through the test with new construction around Orlando and finding out of the way car washes, etc... I am using it again this year exclusively. I send destinations all the time from the app to the GPS.

The onboard X5 nav is orders of magnitude better than my previous Q7. Mine has already updated itself three times; in the Audi you had to download an update via SD card and install it. The Audi understood voice directions about 50% of the time, if that, and frequently wasn't available for several minutes after you started the car. The Audi did have one endearing quality - since it never, ever understood "find the next rest stop," I tried "I have to pee" and it worked every time. It was never a good relationship, and I think it routed me the longest way every time it could. I thought I heard it snicker a couple of times.

The thing I like about Google Maps is the real time traffic (data from other Google Maps users). It routes me, maybe like WayZ, around congestion all the time, and as best I can tell is pretty accurate. Maybe it helps in a city like Austin with so many geeky peeps as users.

I want to stick with the iDrive map because I like the implementation to the HUD and Adaptive drive mode. |

Think the source might vary by region but TomTom seem to be the strategic choice for map and traffic data. The routing engine is definitely not developed by TomTom though. |
