The Kenwood ios very similar to what I have running in terms of power, I think (not 100% sure) the underseat subs are 8ohm so overpowering them with this amp seems unlikely. The thing about the Kenwood, like the one I am running, is that it doesn't have Low Pass Filter and High Pass Filter at the same time. So you can for example isolate 0Hz-200Hz or 200Hz-20KHz+, but not 90Hz-200Hz, which would be preferable to me. That Said, I run my mono amp at 0Hz-90Hz and the dual at 0Hz-200Hz and it sounds good enough. I think the JL audio you are showing can do that. Otherwise JL audio are very high quality amps so should be a good choice too. I must admit I haven't studied the JL audio in all detail so if you plan on buying it, you should check whether it can Isolate frequencies There is no advantage to having 2 separate amps for me, I just had the 2 amps I am using still lying around. The rockford fostgate, no experience with the brand, it looks a little bit underpowered to me at first sight (assuming the underseat subs are 8 ohms, which I read but have never tested myself) |

The LOC you can set easily, it has a overload LED, just turn your sound system all the way up to 80-90% with a good quality test track (hopefully you live in a secluded area ) and set the level on the LOC. (The overload LED can light up occasionally but not continuously) I usually use Dire straits / sultans of swing, but you should use a track that represents the kind of music you listen to and of which you know that the recording is of good quality. You can also find things like frequency test tracks on spotify, they generate a tone at certain frequencies, so you can judge how good/loud each frequency sounds. As for the level on the amp, it is try and listen. For me, listening for a minute and judging doesn't work, I have to leave a certain setting for 1-2 days before judging. |

My goal was to add a sub for the sub-bass (succeeded), and to reduce the boomyness (only partially succeeded). The system has some strange bevahiours, I suspect a lot of sound processing is going on, and nothing can change that as there is no way of taking the sound processor out of the system. For example, there is a lot more bass when playing radio than when playing spotify. And when you turn it up, the bass starts to disappear around 50% volume. So anything you change is a compromise, I found something that works well for me for low volumes but I still don’t like the sound at high volumes. For those interested, the stock woofers can supposedly also handle a lot more power than the stock amplifier. Overall, I don’t think adding a separate amp to the stock woofers is worth it, unless you already have one lying around. |

I am thinking about taking the risk and upgrading the stock subs... is BavSound the best bet for these? I’ve seen quite a few different brands that should work. Any thoughts?

In terms of Speaker quality difference, my personal opinion is that this matters more for speakers that have to render higher frequencies, so I am not sure if that will be really noticeable. Specifically the biggest difference you hear with better speakers is that they are able to render frequencies which stock speakers cannot (or not efficiently). But the stock subs have been tested to be quite good in that regard. Mind, this is only my personal opinion, I am aware that there are many more differences between speakers, just not sure if the average ear can actually hear those differences. |

But, it remains a risk. Thank you for asking this question, I should have mentioned this in my original response. |

I will say this, even without replacing the subs, the sound was noticeably better. Go with it and you will be happy for sure. Good luck.

I would've totally participated in the group buy, but I ended up installing a JL sub and Amp in the luggage compartment! Costed the same as the bavsound subs.
